Hated wearing their stupid button down and tie.

Had worked at an Alfalfa Video in Lafayette that eventually got bought out by Blockbuster and we had to switch. Before then it was just a white polo and some navy pants.

Honestly, still my favorite non "real" job.

Same. I could drive myself to Blockbuster in 1993 although I mostly used Video USA and some place called CO-OP Video. We weren't important enough for Blockbuster in my area at that time

Remember having to make a decision on what to rent mostly by judging the cover art?

For the longest time I thought the Godfather was a horror movie. Brando looked scary.

Oh good times. Going pick out a movie with the girl you were dating. Acting like you really cared. All you really wanted to do was get laid.
Long before the swipe left or right days. You had to date them back then.

The early VCRs didn't rewind very fast.

I still remember the one by the north gates of LSU. To think, Blockbuster had an opportunity to buy Netflix for dirt cheap is astounding.

Remember when for like three years, Redbox was the next thing?

Yeah we used to rent movies from that one all the time in college. That 12pm return time was occasionally problematic for me at that point in my life. They probably made more from me on late fees than rentals on the weekends.

With smaller tapes.

Anyone here remember the Alfalfa Video in Time Plaza on Johnston St. in Lafayette form when they were a kid or older?

If so, there a solid shot if you went in from '91-94 I was a dick to you.

Still remember the entire layout of the store. This one time a guy cam in and was looking for some specific movie, but I was at the counter busy doing something. He asked about the movie as he came around our circular counter in front and I told him it's in DRAMA, which is on the left wall right there in alphabetical order. I thought that was pretty good...

He was just reaching the wall when I'd said "Alphabetical order,": and he turned around and looked at me like he'd never heard the term. Me, channeling my best Randall, gave him a, "You know...like the song. 'A, B, C, D, E, F, G..."

He was unpleased.

I can't remember the name of the one by the old Winn Dixie. They definitely had a porn section.

Always was a treat as a kid. Parents didn’t make good money until I was a teenager so we didn’t eat out much but every Friday we got to pick out one Nintendo game and 2 movies for the weekend combined with either a bucket of KFC or pizza from Pizza Hut. Of course this is the 90s when both of those places were still pretty good

I always looked forward to Friday’s

She finally figured out the problem was the little needle in the coaxial cable was broken.

I remember bending that needle slightly for a better connection. Or stuffing small pieces of foil in the hole

I remember the excitement around 2000 I was 9 years old and grandparents got me this for Christmas along with the small PlayStation 1. My dad had a good new job and bought my mom a Chevy suburban so I took this on long trips to watch movies and play my PlayStation. I thought we were rich due to having this

That’s incredible stupidity considering I had internet fast enough for Xbox live in 2008 in rural Mississippi and we still had a blockbuster store then

My dad bought a used VCR from one of our neighbors in 1987 for like $400.

It’s crazy what VCRs, microwaves, etc cost back then. It was a major purchase

Now we buy 60 inch smart TVs for less than a vcr cost new in the 80s not even accounting for inflation. 400 dollars in the mid 80s is 1100 dollars today

I can remember towns here were judged by the video rental stores.

1. Local mom and pop store? Shitty one horse town

2. Movie gallery - decent town but full of poors

3. Blockbuster - you’ve made the big time
