when you major in things that are hard...tends to limit the amount you see funny how that works
My oldest was an engineering major - there was plenty of ghetto in the PFT
When I was in grad school in the early 2000s, it was like a different campus.

I'm not pointing this at you, specifically, but can we let this term go? The Greek system is a huge social club, nothing more or less. It's way less about "buying" friends and more about collecting more friends than if you were just floating around campus. It's private parties and social connections. These connections last a lifetime and have a lot to do with business networking later on.
"It's not what you know, it's who you know" is still as applicable as ever.

Except for the part about where you pay thousands of dollars a year to not float around campus collecting friends. Which sees to work fine, as you'll be in class with 200 or more kids a week.

I would have said Incel board, but that probably doesn’t need to be said at this point. The whole site is infested and dominated by them.

You really don’t, and I know you will try to argue but I live in the city of BR - three kids at LSU (well, one recent grad) - and it is HARD to get away from the constant minority pushing.
i didnt say you could 100% get away from it but you can absolutely minimize it especailly for a kid living on or near campus
quote:
My family is not the type for Greek life - so I cannot speak for that. I told my kids they could rush but they didn’t want to.
and thats fine, but if you take out the historical black frats/Sor. you will see the its well over 90% white.
quote:
we have gone to many, many engineering/STEM presentations the past 5 years at LSU and not one white boy gave a talk - not saying it was ‘ghetto’ but it was borderline and very DEI
you said ghetto not foreigners. big difference. Stem and specifically Asian/Indian are always going to make up a sizable portion of that student body. always been like that. I didnt say different and a lot of the professors will come from those demographics too. That is pushed in those cultures a lot more
but for the average student living on campus, in a frat and majoring in engineering or accounting or finance.....yea absolutely you can avoid it 95% of the time. sure there will be some, but not like you are going to southern.
not that hard to understand
and yea i do understand BR and the BS there. but again, you can avoid a lot of that depending on where you live. Im there very often and still have close family that lives there and spend roughly 30 days in the city per year.

I’m still on the advisory board and on recruiting. The college of business is how it’s always been, mostly white, split pretty closely between men and women
And they haven’t picked the building up and moved it so you can still park right across the street

I didn't say it was free. I just said that it's a tactic to make connections. The law of large numbers (those Greek kids are also floating around campus and sitting in class with 200 people). You're not going to socialize with a fraction of the people you are sitting in random classes with, because you don't have much opportunity to talk. Fraternities and sororities host social exchanges weekly.
And goodness, I'm in no way saying that the only way to make friends is the Greek system, I'm just saying that it's a social club. And yes, the fees are high, but those houses aren't cheap and have full-time staffs.

Which included room and board and meals. Both of which are way better than the dorms and about the same cost

yea the whole buying friends thing is retarded, real easy for someone that is sending their kid to college in same city they grew up in to say.
1) making friends randomly on LSU campus is not the easiest thing to do no matter how out going 1 is
2) the stats show those in greek life make better grades and are more involved in the school
3) as mentioned, connections matter big time in life
4) it certainly allows you to be around a higher class of people than average student body. that in and of itself is a much bigger deal than this board would ever admit.
and ftr I was not in a frat or involved in Greek life at any point. But I certainly can read statistics and understand trends pretty damn well.

also since tictok came on board, alabama greek life has blown up and gotten more expensive but at the same time it is attracting more and better students.
LSU is dumb AF for not requiring test scores and promoting greek life. dumb AF.

You will argue with a fence post until a hurricane comes to knock it down and you are still standing and still arguing.
It’s ok to not know everything. I have lived this life the last few years - you haven’t - you don’t know. I’ve repeatedly said my kids are STEM majors and still you want to talk around the facts. That’s fine. All of my other mom friends have kids the same age and we are all saying the same thing.
Good luck with your future college search.

You also said there hasn’t been a single white male speaker in an engineering presentation in at least 5 years which just isn’t true. 4 of the 8 department heads in the college of engineering are white dudes

The department heads did not give talks - students did
Well, the Turkish woman in the engineering department gave a talk - but I’m not sure if she’s considered white or not. Which is why I said no white male has given an engineering talk that my kids and I attended - because one hasn’t. I guess the 4 guys were taking their white privileged days.
And since this werent there - how would you know? I was. I’m sorry your beloved LSU is not what you want it to be.

Yes, it’s totally believable that there hasn’t been a single white male student give a presentation in a college that is 72% male and 68% white.
We totally believe you

You’re right, you’re just making absurd claims and your back up is “just believe me”
