Now, multiple structures are on fire in Studio City.

This is totally separate from the Palisades and is on the other side of town.

This is also about 7 miles away from the part of Hollywood with the fire.

The LA Fire Department is on the scene.

Not in the video, the front of the bigger house just collapsed sending embers up the hill.

That's the large part of it. It is called the Wilderness Urban Interface, or WUI for short, and it is being developed more and more every year. The Jasper fire this past Summer in Canada is another perfect example. It is a historic town that is surrounded by the Jasper National Forest. That fire went up on a "normal" fire day and lingered. A critical fire day came along with high winds and it rolled the town. There was no buffer for that town despite a decent land management regime. It is just a constant threat living that close to the wilderness.

It also highlights an issue with prescribed burn planning that plays out regularly. A lot of these towns (pick a western state......CA, NM, NV, CO, etc....they all have these towns and areas) are tourist towns. It is a balancing act with all involved when it comes to controlled burns. If those on the ground and putting together plans could they would burn every day that it is possible, but that isn't feasible when you talk about dumping constant smoke into a town or shutting down popular areas......it hurts business, and that's the main draw for many of these towns.

The difference is this is an ongoing issue in the LA area.

It is not in the other locations you list. A quick perusal of Jasper history mentions one fire event in it's 100+ year history. The 2024 fire you use to equate it's fire vulnerability to LA's.

Earlier I saw a Malibu resident say this is the third time his house has burned down in the last 30 years.

They are not the same.

After these wildfires are done; does that eliminate all the brush and debris that would have been cleared in a controlled burn and will the city will be safer after the rebuild?
It will grow back far more quickly than a rebuild will happen.

You forget California is probably the most regulated state in the country. Building back will be a slow process for the ones who can afford it.

Adam Carolla just said on video he thinks that it will be close to 3 years before the first load of lumber is delivered to the lucky ones that actually get a permit to rebuild

Thinks the Coastal Commision may never allow those on the sea side of PCH to ever build back

He also said they are going to make the process miserable because they want them to LEAVE.

That's what it's all about.

California lives to lock up land and not allow development. This is a windfall for the state government bureaucrats to continue their land grab.

Palisades next to the ocean?? Don't mind if we help ourselves to that premium real estate. You filthy citizens shouldn't be allowed to put private homes there.
