One of these two tornadoes completely destroyed my young niece’s home. She’s in the hospital with a broken leg. Her son is also in the hospital. Her neighbors found her in the rubble. Also, killed two of her dogs. She has a bunch of cows and other farm animals. Probably lost many of them as well. Not good…

Does it really make people that angry, that a potential severe weather event doesn't meet forecast? Take the other thread on the OT.

It's a strange paradox, but humans are both attracted to and revolted by tragedy. There is something in our DNA that wants these outbreaks to be historic because we want to say, "I was there that day." We don't necessarily think about the human toll when we formulate these kinds of feelings, but I strongly believe that people typically want to see red letter days when it comes to tornado outbreaks and hurricane landfalls - especially when they aren't directly affected by them.
