I've been in Ruston for 4 days with zero chance to get back to BR because 167 south to I49 is closed in 2 different spots due to flooding.
There are plenty of options to get to BR if you really want to.

Holy shite man. Take Hwy 27 (Crystal Springs/ Utica) out of Vicksburg to I-55 at Crystal Springs. This is hilly as shite and will be water-free once you pass the Big Black River south of Vicksburg city limits.

frick it
I'm leaving Ruston now
Going 20 to 55 south
20->US65->US61
Why not that? Theyre all open and its 85 miles shorter.

people bitching about this being a bust in Baton Rouge and New Orleans metro areas. Apparently this wasn't close enough for them to think it was a good move to close schools.
I live in Hammond and some of the photos posted are relatively close to my house. I'm good, but this event is no joke. I for one am happy my wife and daughter are at home rather than out driving today. And if nothing happens, so be it.
Hell, I've got a job site less than 500 yds from where the tornado struck in LaPlace last week. I'd sent all my guys home, and I wouldn't have been upset about the lost time if it hadnt rained a drop. You can't screw around with this stuff.

was just on 12 over the tchefuncte, it was high but not crazy, just barely out of the banks from what I could see. Don't know when it's forecasted to crest or how high
Just talked to family member and they said it has a long way to go to reach Katrina and Isaac levels. We shall see
The Tchefuncte River near Covington crested @ 26.81ft on 8/31/2012 from Isaac. It is currently at 23.4ft and projected to crest at 32ft.

With the current state of Hammond, I-55 might be the worst possible option.

Do I have to go all the way to Jackson to get home? I thought 55 south was at Vicksburg
55 is at Jackson but you can take US-61 from Vicksburg to BR.

Will that cause major flooding problems? Over 22 in Madisonville?

28.5 Louisiana Highway 21 closed, water will be over the roadway surface of the bridge. Flowers Estates will be inundated. A few homes not elevated will flood. Homes along Old Landing and Riverbend Lane will flood. Homes near Highway 1077 and in the Tantella Ranch Road area will flood.

26 The entrance road to Camp Tchefuncte will flood. The campgrounds will be inaccessible by auto and evacuation of the campground area is advised. Homes between Tantella Ranch Road and the river as well as homes on Trinchard Road and Louisiana Highway 1077 will be threatened.
22 Tchefuncte River camp grounds will be under a few inches of water. The Goodbee commumunity is threatened with flooding. Water will invade Camp Tchefuncte's parking lot. Vehicles must be removed to higher ground.

f rain does not stop in next 2-3 hours, 165 from Forsythe extension to West Elmwood will have some problems.
So would this be why Northside Terrace is starting to flood?? I have rental property in there, I just dropped off 50 sandbags to my tenant. Not looking good

Nah.
Not if he takes I-20 > 425 > 61.
not sure who "helped" him believe the only route was 20 to 55.

You'd be amazed the amount of people that dont know anything other than interstates.

Currently 8.25" in my gauge. .25" of rain since I left the house this morning and got back home just now.

He should probably just stick it out in Ruston... for his own safety.
STAY IN RUSTON... give us updates every 2 minutes or so.

55 is good. I saw somewhere that US 61 was closed in a couple of different parts, which is why I suggested 20 to 55. I also suggested this route to him a mere 44 hours ago in this same thread.
Posted on 3/11/16 at 2:41 pm to 4LSU2
44 hours ago he could've taken pretty much any route imaginable, minus going over to Shreve then down I-49.
Posted on 3/11/16 at 2:42 pm to MountainTiger
Where do I exit off 20 east to get to 61 south? Vicksburg exit?
