Made mistake of offering wife a solution to a problem

Today, the wife was expressing her displeasure with some shenanigans going on at work (boss's kid getting special treatment, etc), and I made the near fatal mistake of simply offering some solutions to her problem.
Further, yesterday morning she complained about being tired waking up many mornings and I also stupidly privided a suggestion for that, too.
Now, she's pissed that I just didn't listen.

My wife and I had probably the worst argument in years over where the top to the blender is. For some reason when I said I don't know because I didn't put it up, that wasn't a good enough answer for it and she needed to know where it was. Turned into about an hour bitchfest and I'd had enough. Our kids didn't come out of their rooms for the rest of the night. Felt bad for them, but I will only be pushed so far before I can't take it anymore.

You're supposed to listen, not provide a solution.

Ask her to let you prior to rambling on about useless crap, if she’s legit asking a question or just thinking out loud.

With females you need to quickly diagnose and categorize her rant/problems into two buckets
Sympathy or Solutions
the majority of the time, Sympathy/Support is the way to go. just nod and listen and say you understand/agree. Solutions come later (if ever)
with my wife I can just ask, “do you want sympathy or solutions right now”

I’ve learned the hard way that when mrs evil cockroach presents me a problem that’s easily solved, the correct answer is “oh wow, sorry to hear that” while nodding carefully and slowly .
