I know the whole Karen thing is cliche but I can only imagine that a MADD chapter meeting is really just a bunch of women with nothing better to do than try to out Karen each other.

I can tell you in the south, especially in LA, we do not take truly driving drunk nearly serious enough
I don’t know about the rest of the country but here in South Louisiana is really just a money grab.

engaging a mother over something that led to her losing a child is not a battle I would ever consider taking up.

There's the reason for the founding of the counter - DAMM. (Drunks Against Madd Mothers).

And of those 40 screaming wenches at the chapter, this maybe happened to one of their cousin's step kids.
I love how they have no fricks to give about impaired/distracted driving being caused by scrolling the 'gram, looking for your next concrete pour site, or slapping Braiden and Braxtyn in the back seat because they're fighting over a Chik Fil a sauce. But, distracted driving is exactly how an Uber driver I was riding with nearly smoked a kid on a bike. Think of the chirren!

Need to bring it back. I went to the Keg at 16 but I'm better adjusted than these kids today.
Makos, Keg, Caboose, Nitecaps were worth the drive from Baton Rouge for me back in 1992-1994.

I’ve heard from people that they will hangout a places to watch repeat offenders then call the police on them when they get in the car. Sounds like a good way to get your arse kicked to me.

I googled drunk drivers against MADD…nothing. I do think there needs to be something to counteract the extreme MADD. The word impaired is MUCH broader than alcohol. I did some searching after my “experience” with the group and what’s disturbing is the entrapment that a lot of cops illegally use just so they can receive an award from the group as well as overtime for the cops. There has to be a happy medium

"Mothers Against"
"As a woman"
"Think of the children"
Any of these phrases should raise a red flag that the person saying them just hates fun.

big alcohol lines the pockets of Baton Rouge politicians
I'm sorry your sister was killed by an idiot drunk driver. But "big alcohol" isn't lining any Louisiana politicians pockets. It's not like AB InBev or Diageo has a lobbyist that hangs out at the capitol.

MADD started with good intentions but absolutely lost its mind after the Carrollton Bus Crash here in Kentucky.
If they were doing more than advocating for solutions that aren’t really solutions, I’d be more sympathetic. But when you’re trying to lower the BAC to .05 and have breathalyzers installed in all new cars you’ve lost the plot.
More meaningful change would come from better access to services for helping alcoholics overcome addiction and DUI laws that actually have some teeth to them.

Apparently, the statistics show that people who are impaired tend to kill more families of four on their way home from dinner. The definition of impaired is now .08% as determined by our legislature. if 2 drinks with dinner puts you over, don't drive. FYI, i'm not sure what a MADD type person is, but I'm just an old lawyer who has seen plenty of drinking/driving/heartache, including a former client who recently drove drunk and killed a guy.
Weigh the value of the ability to consume alcohol with your dinner then drive against the value of the family of 4 you kill on the way home when your .09 but not "drunk"
Even MADD admits a tiny fraction of the drunk driver caused deaths have been from drivers in the .08/.09 range. So small even, that it's not statistically different than sober drivers killing people. .08 is a dumb, arbitrary number. They want to keep driving it down through their lobbying efforts until it is .00. They'll say things like "even if it prevents 1 death it's worth it!". Sound familiar? The real way to prevent motor vehicle death is to not allow anyone to drive.
Elected officials don't look at science when they have a bunch of crazy women protesting about this stuff and spending millions on lobbying efforts.
MADD also doesn't want a sliding scale. First time offender with no other criminal record and not driving recklessly at all - and just .08? Let's ruin your life.
I understand some of them lost loved ones to drunk drivers, but they've caused a severe overcorrection in DUI laws. And have caused extreme overreach in legislation restricting businesses from operating how they wish when it comes to serving their patrons.
ETA:
And someone else mentioned this, but texting and driving is several orders of magnitude more prevalent and is more dangerous than someone who had 2 glasses of wine at dinner.

Not supporting drunk driving at all, but it’s hard for me to believe that there is a majority of the public that agree with their over the top views. I consider myself very conservative, but they were way off base
Practically any thought a person has, good or evil, can be brought to a distorted extreme.

I wouldn't make that statement without qualifiers. A lot of politicians own restaurants, or partake in investment groups that do, etc. The incentive system used by the liquor distributors (not InBev, but in Texas it would be Southern Glazers and Republic, who sell InBev's products to Spec's and Total Wines, etc) is so borderline fraudulent that it'd throw red flags to anyone with one semester of accounting under their belt.
Channel stuffing, inappropriately assigned discounts, suites to Taylor Swift, etc., are all a legal part of the liquor game. But in the context of this discussion, probably less of a problem with politicians than construction and consulting contract awards lining their pockets.

Now apply this to most special interest groups. We were never designed to be this fragmented as a society with people throwing value behind every little thing. It's imploding us from within.
