HD still selling 2x4s for $3.98/board. Going to hold off a bit longer before I get the wood and materials to finish my basement.

Import hardwood lumber is skyrocketing. I work for one of the largest import companies in the country in regards to tropical lumber and I’m concerned this shortage could last for a year or longer. Spanish Cedar, Sapele, African Mahogany, and exotics are sold before the lumber leaves a foreign port. Our customers nationally are panic buying trying to make sure they are covered with material and I’m having to put everyone on allocation. There is a SERIOUS global shortage on containers and cargo ships thus driving ocean freight up as high as I’ve ever seen it in 30 years. Ipe and Cumaru decking is in short supply because of a longer than normal rainy season in Brazil. Our government put a freeze on our Burmese Teak because Myanmar had a military coup over the government because of election fraud. This has our yacht builders in a bind. Indonesia is shut down for 30 days due to Covid. I’m glad I’m not working on commission because it’s hard to earn a living selling from an empty wagon. We probably have 10 million board feet on order and all of it is 6-9 months late.

The domestic lumber is high priced too. White Oak and Poplar is selling at an all time high. Import and domestic plywood primarily used in cabinet shops is at at an all time high. Much like import lumber the demand exceeds supply on plywood.

Way too hot to be building anything outside. I’m waiting for October.

I got poplar for $3/BF last week. Used to make 4 2’x3’ picture frames. If that’s expensive, I’ll take it.

Awaiting Joe Bidens propaganda tweet about this soon.

So the 4ft X 8ft X 7/16" sheets of OSB has fallen from $32.00 per sheet? Hadn't priced it in a while, but last time I did it was at Home Depot.
