LSU might become the next University of Memphis. University of Memphis is about to reach a Black plurality where they make up the majority. I thought winning the natty in 2019 would revive LSU's popularity with White kids but it didn't. Honestly, I think LSU may be getting "too diverse" for a certain group of folks but it is what it is

The university is in the middle of a shitty city man.

The national championship does not outweigh feeling safe when you go to school.

They give ZERO money no matter the merit. My kids always wanted to go to LSU. Then we visited and the arrogance of the speaker turned them off immediately. Basically said it will cost you more to go to LSU, but do it anyway. Never mind taking more money to go elsewhere, being at LSU was worth going into debt. Just get student loans and worry about it later.

He literally told a room full of prospective students and parents that with a straight face. Good friend's son goes to LSU. 4.0 and 36 on the ACT, really much higher but the school refuses to weigh GPAs. He had 11-12 AP classes as well. ZERO scholarship to go to LSU. Has to pay 15K a year just in room and board.

Meanwhile, my kids get paid to go to Tech.Tech gave them 50K on top of TOPS. LSU offered 3K a year. Also, LSU doesn't offer Nursing. You can do prerequisites, but then you have to move to New Orleans or Shreveport the final 2 years. LSU offers Urban Etymology though...

"LSU Celebrates Most Academically Accomplished Freshman Class in History, Record-Breaking Graduation Rate and Increased Retention"

So many of yall spew crap without even researching it. The above article is from fall 2022. Average ACT score of 26, that's about 3 points higher than when I was applying back in 2010.

I have been watching LSU decline for over 40 years. It's best years were when it's graduation rate was much lower than it is today.

You posting stats about students who haven't sat in one class yet doesn't speak at all to the quality of education, or lack thereof, at LSU. It's basically a diploma mill now, and it's fairly well known.

That's untruthful statistics. In 2010, every student applying had to turn in an ACT score. In 2022, turning in an ACT score was optional. They need to publish the percentage of all new students who turned in an ACT score to create that 26 average. Likewise, what was the percentage of new students who didn't turn in a test score?

It's about money. They went test optional so they can get asses in seats. It caused a ripple effect to all the other state universities. They had to become test optional too because LSU is now taking students who would normally go to lower tiered state schools. If you think LSU is getting bad, what do think Southern and Southeastern are now having to accept in order to get asses in their seats?

Better scholarship opportunities at out of state schools. TOPS has made LSU lazy in terms of rewarding the best students with scholarships.

This.

Alabama is giving full rides to Louisiana kids that would only get a legacy scholarship to LSU with TOPS.

LSU was never on the level of Berkeley, UCLA, UNC, and UVA. Nothing wrong with that, it’s just reality.

Because BR is a shite hole. Also I think college has lost its luster. White kid goes to state school, does well, gets DEId by HR. He may as well save his money and go into the trades.

You make a great point. LSU back in the day, you had to really work hard to graduate. And at that time, most of the best in-state students were easily going to LSU. Now they going to other places or skipping college all together.

Today, LSU (and many other colleges) is more of a diploma mill and they letting almost anybody in. Most of these kids use AI to cheat and do their homework. Quality doesn't matter anymore, it's quantity. If LSU was smart they would figure out how to get quality and quantity but it's much easier just to focus on one versus the other it seems.

People forget colleges are businesses. 99% don't care about personal development, quality, and other things advertised. They care about MONEY!

The state of BR plays a factor moreso after the fact for most kids not from BR. Most kids who didn't grow up in the BR area don't know about the decline and what it used to be. Once they get here, they quickly learn to not leave far from campus and if they do they rarely go up north or downtown. Downtown just had several shootings this past week. The farthest most LSU kids go from campus is Corporate near Wholefoods. Baton Rouge is definitely more dangerous and uglier than it was decades ago even with the new stuff popping up here and there. Just look at Airline from 20 years ago to now.

That’s because less than half the students submit scores now. What do you think happens to the average when you take out the bottom 50%?

But is it, really? It could be that less students are identifying as white.
You know the woke thought process goes something like " it's not cool to identify as white". Call it the Rachel Dolezal effect.
