KLSU was banging in the early to mid 90's. Then I guess those students graduated and it never has been good again
It was solid late 90's as well....was it 104.9 (now ESPN) I think??

Remember the big to-do regarding KLSU and Tal Lemming or something like that?

quote:Another station already had WLSU. LSU got a special exception to be able to use KLSU, even though it is on the east bank.
Probably not WLSU call letters as stations west of the Mississippi River get a “K” while those on the East side get a “W”
quote:I think you mean East Stadium. I know for all the years I lived in 501 East Stadium, it was on the 1st floor, 4 floors directly below my room. One time they interviewed John Prine after he did a concert at the PMAC. I caught him after the interview and got an autograph for a friend.
When I was there the station was still in West Stadium Dorm.
There was a time way back when the only way to receive the station was over the AC wiring in the dorms on an AM radio. Later, they used to do their own broadcast of the football games on FM in full stereo. The crowd sounds were great and the voices of the announcers came through from left, center and right individually. They claimed they were the first station anywhere to cover a college football game in full stereo.

had several shows on KLSU back in the mid 80s
I was a DJ there from 86 til 90. My first year I did the 3am to 6am Saturday morning show in the old stadium studio. The lock on the door never worked so I Would sometimes look up and there would be some freak standing in front of me. A few times I thought I was gonna be murdered. I eventually hosted the local show on Friday evenings. I once had Kirk The Jerk from the Dick Nixons interview Bill and Hoakie of Dash live......I nearly got fired for that craziness.

That’s a great slot. In 85 I had 2 am Saturday to 6 am Sunday. Turned the mike over to Karen and Ken with a Christian music show starting at 6 Sunday morning. My first show followed Zia the Cat.
I loved overnight. I got calls from truckers on I-10 asking what the hell was this shite, and all kind of random people.

Rat, we also did basketball and baseball in stereo. Some memories: a bird landing on one of the crowd mics and chirping away at eardrum-busting levels. Jim Engster and Steve Schneider with the old train joke "here comes the old (insert random local time) right on time", then me cranking the stereo mics while it passed by the old Alex Box. And hacking our AP machine so that I could bring it up to the Tiger Stadium press box, then hearing Sid Crocker crediting WPRG for the scores.
Fun times for radio nerds.
