Heard a list on the news this morning of the top party colleges and freaking Wiscon was #1 and LSU wasn't even on the list. I remember when we used to constantly be in the top 5. What's changed?

Wisconsin has always been a huge party school.
get your LSU glasses off b/c its not a top party school.

Playboy magazine and other mags used to have Top 20 Party School lists, where LSU was either #1 or not listed, then marked with an asterisk mentioning that this list doesn't rank Pros with the Collegians.
stop with the urban legend bullshite

99-03 was about the time I did my dirt in BR/LSU.. It was a mad house throw down but I just always assumed the 80's were the top of the hill for partying at LSU. Maybe it was because of all the old timers stories that raised me into the lad I am.

I've often wondered if LSU got its party school rankings because nationally a lot of people think LSU is in or just outside New Orleans. When traveling people ask me all the time about partying in New Orleans when I mention being an LSU grad. It's not to say that LSU isn't actually a fun party school, there just seems to be a reputation built around false assumptions.
That being said, the Louisiana drinking culture is very lax, and there seems to be a carryover attitude from the minimum drinking age being 18 until much more recently than other parts of the country.

It is 100% a myth. Damn near every school applies the "we don't compare pros to amateurs" line to themselves. When I was at WVU in the early 00's everyone in Morgantown took it as fact (myself included). I have heard people from Wisconsin, Penn State, South Carolina, and about 5 other schools all claim the same line at some point (add LSU to that list). Snopes has all the info you need - playboy themselves have addressed this rumor, and confirmed that it is BS.
Difference is we actually went to a top party school

I'm pretty sure that LSU aggressively requested on these lists not include them after the Benn Wynn incident.
It was part of LSU attempting to restructure their image.
It is why they were top on the Princeton review list as late as 2001....but then suddenly disappeared from the rankings entirely not long after.
At least that was the story I heard when I was there.

I still have that article some place.
You should find that article you have for us and tell snopes.

The information for Playboy's 1987 list of party schools had been compiled in 1986 from the reports of Playboy staffers who interviewed campus club leaders, dorm rush chairmen, fraternity presidents and other campus social studs at more than 250 schools nationwide. Which leads us straight into the legend which has sprung up around this famed list:
Then there's the computer bulletin board-fueled story about the magazine (usually Playboy) that was ranking the Top 10 Party Schools in the country. Students at the University of Wisconsin were taken aback when their school didn't rate even an honorable mention; after all, everyone knows about the legendary cheesehead antics that go on in Madison. But when the kids contacted the magazine, they were told: "We don't rank professionals."
Gentle souls that they are, Playboy referenced this bit of folklore (a charming bit of blarney which been told about any number of schools, cheese-enhanced and otherwise, for many years prior to 1987) and did their best console those who were left off the January 1987 compilation by stating, "If your school isn't listed, it's probably because we didn't include professionals."

The apex was in the mid to late 90's. Anybody who knows what the frick they're doing when they party knows that.
Agreed. I was there from 1994-1999. Murphy's, parties in the fraternity houses, it was a golden age for partying. I had the time of my life. 40 fricking years old now...
