I believe LSU Law should practice what it preaches and get someone who emulates our values to be the speaker.
Above from a petition signer.
There it is, folks. "LSU's job is to reflect my own views back at me."
I graduated in 2013 and there was a group of 20-30 students who wore hoodies (for a FB photo, of course) to protest for Trayvon. They decided where they stood on the matter from the outset... before due process... before evidence was disclosed... before the state had proved its burden... at a fricking law school....

Who on earth are these people? I'm friends with a few current law students and they're as far away from this kind of shite as you can get.
ETA: just looked through the names; not a single one of the named people are high-performing law students.

Normally, I don't take credit for spamming things I learned about from the OT, but this is one I will. I figured the first name was only fitting.

Funny thing is most of the people on that list, I believe, won't even be practicing law in LA and probably give very little if any back to the university.

I’d be willing to bet (just by looking through some of the names) a majority that signed the petition don’t go and aren’t even associated with LSU law and probably not associated with the university as a whole...just a guess

Yeah, because House Majority Whip happens to just about everyone.

So name me one person that is an LSU grad that would be better and held in higher esteem, and relevant right now, than Scalise? Go ahead...I'll wait

He’s a hack with 12 posts.

Why didn’t you sign up to Tigerdroppings last year and make an account to bitch about Louisiana’s governor doing the same?

I asked you already.
Name another LSU grad that would be a good commencement speaker that is an LSU grad, known and respected by a majority of the student body? As someone mentioned, Shaq, who has spoken before, but maybe he said no.
EDIT: Also a good commencement speaker that is not political.

So go ahead and tell me a better speaker? Or are you going to agree he's not right for a speech but have NO solution to correct the problem.
Also, I guess no university should ever have a political speaker. So each time Hillary, Obama, Bush, etc give a commencement speech, I would expect you to have the same response as you do to Scalise.

Meh. Thing has 53 signatures. Usual situation of the Internet making a few outliers seem like they represent more than they do. It’s way past time for the silent majority to start to squash these idiots like the cockroaches they are.

the LSU Law School traditionally picks someone who is themselves a graduate of LSU Law.
Many law graduates get into politics in SOME form. Even if they don't directly run themselves.
The point of a commencement speech is to tell the grads things to strive far after college, tell a little what they did after college, etc. I am not disagreeing that there are many people that don't graduate from college that could still give a great "life" speech. Part of the purpose of the speech though is to inspire the grads to think they could be the next Graves, Scalise, Shaq, etc that were once sitting in seats very similar to them.
