I really hate how they've hijacked the term liberal. I'm about as left leaning as a hippie douchebag can get, but I like to think that I could sit with most conservatives here and talk about economic or foreign policy and we'd disagree but we'd do it like adults without yelling or using attack words like "racist". It sucks that one side of politics has had reasonable voices drowned out by intellectually meandering busy -bodies. frick these people, they're not liberal, they're not anything but angry and ignorant.

I'm about as conservative as they come. But I would sit and talk to anyone about anything. It does usually devolve. Especially those that don't understand people are more alike than different.

I've got really conservative friends and we discuss lots of shite, we usually approach it as a mental exercise kind of, but if it gets heated we usually just stop (unless we're too drunk). But even if it does get emotional, we're still friends afterwards because we're fricking adults and adults understand that not everyone thinks like them!!

He's going to be here several hours. He got dehydrated and they are having to give him some fluids via IV. He's actually still having some issues from the infection he got in the flood.
He's supposed to fly back to La tomorrow. So we'll have to see if the doc clears him.

i normally hate such labels too. I like to look at each issue, and on some things I'm left, some right. But in this instance, when it comes to creating social strife, it's liberals. It just is.

the biggest thing is avoiding getting emotional
the extremists (both ways) rely SO MUCH on it that their rhetorical goal is to rile you up so that you get emotional and then IT'S ON MOTHERfrickER. i ignore most discussions about "emotional" conservatives issues (abortion is the clear-cut #1) so it's easy to avoid that "side"
but the victim industry LOVES them some emotion, too. they get offended if you won't get emotional, but that's the key to trying to have any real discussion. emotions and getting in the little drive by quip comments to come off as superior and intelligent (When really it just makes them look dishonest and smug)

I agree with all of this. I do have some friends that I do not discuss politics with because they try to change my mind but refuse to have a good debate and listen alternate points of view.
I can accept different points of view. I think that's what makes the world go round. And homogeneity is boring.

Agreed, it seems like once someone labels themselves, they shut their brain off and let whichever tribe they've chosen determine their positions on each issue.
My point was that if I was given a liberal litmus test, I'd probably qualify. But these idiots prevent anything from getting done because they handicap half the political system with their ignorance.
