LSU having to deal with a “free speech” versus “hate speech” issue

A high school graduate/incoming freshman was on social media saying “I hate n word.”
LSU released tweet saying that is horrible but they have some limits due to free speech
“To be clear, we at LSU condemn hate and bigotry in any form, including racially incendiary remarks. As a state university, however, we are subject to constitutional limitation on our ability to take action in response to free speech. More: lsu.edu/together/“
Black student body including some football players not happy with the response.
I don’t know the law.
Sorry about the premature post

I hear they’re gonna make them tear down the Indian mounds.

If the goal is to end racism, is the answer to expel him and cause even more hatred or rather to allow him to attend LSU and potentially grow as a person?

Let the black students “talk some sense in to him”

College students need to prepare to have to re-apply each year
That will give the school the ability to find reason to not accept the application

I abhor cancel culture, and this is a slippery slope, but I have no problem barring his admission, even if he is just a juvenile.

They could deny it now? I don’t know where they are in process for August students

I do agree with cutting bait given he isn’t even there yet. If it was a current student I would “call him into the office” and give him a lesson. Again I don’t know the laws

Rough since already accepted. School might be looking at lawsuit if they changed mind right after something like this.

What is hate speech? Thought the Supreme Court said there was no such thing?
Posted on 6/7/20 at 8:58 pm to Rouge
Yea, I am guessing lawyers have already given guidance about it

The kid is obviously a moron, so I won’t lose sleep over it either way.
But remember, these are the same people behind “ban the box” which would not allow you to ask about a person’s criminal record during the job interview process.
You know, so past mistakes won’t ruin your life in the future.

His professors will make it a point to fail him out after the first semester.

I got a feeling this dude is going to decide to go elsewhere and situation will work itself out.

Is the same standard going to be applied to them?
Lawyers would have a field day

"hate speech" should be the most protected speech

LSU made a mistake answering.
Or, they should’ve said they were looking into it.
These people have short memories.
