Engineer here. Just curious why a male would ever major in this? Please advise.
I’m guessing a lot of our internal audit staff are accounting types. I understand a gal doing what she has to do, but seeing a grown man in this role appears to be the biggest cuck in the room. Yea, we actually make the company money. Go over and sit in the corner. When we get a break, we’ll answer your little questions.
fellow engineer here......shut the frick up!!! for the love of god...shut the frick up!!!
you are retarded with money and it shows. You could use a lot more finance classes in your life as you have made it very very clear over the last 2-3 years that you do not understand shite when it comes to money.

What are y’all‘s thoughts on AI impact within accounting? my son will be a junior in LSU accounting major with a concentration in data analysis.
AI can already do most of what entry level accountants do. With that said, having a knowledge base makes you that much more effective in implementing it.
AI is able to do things in 30 minutes that would have taken me weeks. I did an entire financial analysis on a business we are investing in within a couple of hours. Building out a sheet from scratch and pulling the data would've taken much longer than that previously.
So to answer your question, the winners will be those that can implement the tech in the short-term. In the long term, we may all be fricked but time will tell.
If it gets to that point, society will be running so insanely efficiently that I'm not too worried about being put out of a job.

No, you’re not.

Men typically dominate accounting when it comes to specialist or leadership roles. You have to be very analytical. There's no DEI when it comes to these roles.

PSA for all recent grads: A person like this won't have a job for very long. You aren't Elon Musk. You'll never make the company enough money to deal with this type of attitude.

People with a net worth of $3 million know that isn't as impressive as they hoped it would be.

I dont give a shite what your net worth is, you may be smart IQ wise but you suck at finance....you suck at understanding the money side and you suck at dealing with people if you talk in person like you do online.
you also do not listen worth a frick and consider other ideas
and who in the frick brags like this on a message board...really who does that?

you can do Finance work with accounting knowledge but not the other way around
Finance is a much bigger industry then you see in most places in the South, with Houston, Dallas, and Atlanta excluded.
If someone wants to work in capital markets, Finance degree is far more valuable. If someone wants to work in the F&A division of a large company, the CPA can go in more directions

100%
I do think Accounting will be somewhat protected in the short run because the application layer for AI is still lacking. It's great that KPMG just signed a big deal with Anthropic. How many audit or core tax managers & seniors can actually built an agent or setup a dev environment for Claude Code? And if you say "the firm's in-house IT guys will build the Agents / AI-powered internal tools", my response will be "Have you ever actually worked with those guys?" And it is even worse the further down the food chain you go. I'd love to see a boomer partner at, say, Carr Riggs & Ingram build something in Replit.
I've also found accounting firms to be particularly lousy at technology adoption / integration. Having spent 4 years in Big 4 and 10ish years at national firm / near peers I lost count of the botched and half-assed implementations I witnessed. Curious if others have had similar experiences.
All that said, the kids in Accounting / Internal Audit right now really need to build the foundational and functional skills to utilize LLMs to their full potential. I encourage the youngsters to build a projects portfolio similar to what SWEs and Data Analysts have to do. This will be key to advancement and eventually survival.

Well, if they aren't, that company isn't going to last long.

I guess they can fire all the "accounting types" and have you keep the company in compliance with SOX.
This is literally like saying "frick a lawyer! I'm just gonna beat the hell out of em!!"

CPA w/masters in tax. Worked for Big 4, then a fortune 500, then went out on my own. I only work about 20 hours a week outside of the busy season. 600k+ at this point in my carear. Industry is changing due to AI. More of a push to "Advisory" which is a joke considering I've been advising for 20 years now.

Finance bachelors
Accounting masters
CPA
6 years post graduation. Graduated right into COVID, but has secured job with Big 4 audit. Worked there 5 years then moved to a local construction company when I found out my wife was expecting.
I make 130k before any bonuses. I’ve had offers for more but the role I have now is cushy and gives me plenty of time for my new family

I also despise math, so I'm probably more sensitive to it than some.
You can do accounting math with a 10 dollar calculator. The issue is not the numbers. It's where to put the numbers.

Get your finance degree, go grind it out as an investment banker for a few years, probably awful hours but decent salary + bonus. Get some experience on your resume and figure out what type of work and industries you enjoy. Then use that IB experience to get in with a solid PE firm. You’ll be making ridiculous amounts of money by your early 30s
