LSU used to be majority state funded, now they are damn close to being exclusively tuition funded.

Except the state is paying the tuition through TOPS

I agree with you, but really what this comes down to is how overpriced higher education has become. I don't have the statistics in front of me but the price of higher ed has far outpaced inflation.

Why do they keep increasing GPA and ACT requirements when the HS material and methods are the same?

Public and private universities often take a more holistic view of applicants than just looking at GPA and test scores, which I think is appropriate. College student bodies should be diverse...in all aspects.

I don’t know why people were laughing, all my friends that didn’t have the grades to get into LSU went to Alabama and Ole Miss. This was 15 years ago and I know that isn’t the case currently.

The idea that you have to go to college to lead a successful life needs to die. These kids are going to end up in mounds of debt and end up dropping out or with a worthless degree and no ability to find a job in their field.
yet another fallacy perpetrated by baby boomers that has set back millennials.

Why would they turn down free government money? Each kid they let in is a meal ticket. That is roughly $3million in free government money just for 1 year.

That pays for at LEAST 6523548 extra admin staff for the year. Obviously needed

You should try graduating high school first.

People with college degrees (no matter what it's in) outgain people without a college degree. Always have, always will. That's before getting into benefits, which white collar jobs fair out weight blue collar jobs. There's definitely cost benefit with the sharp increase in education costs, but the OT trade school narrative is just as dumb.

It's a simple ROI equation, and college gives you a better ROI almost every time.

That's a horrible blanket statement to make. Everyone knows many people who did not go to college and are very successful.

For instance, a skilled millwright in se texas will earn far more than a college educated curtain designer in mule fart alabama.

While his remarks are insensitive/dickheadish, you know fully well there is a notable contingent that enlist that are academically challenged and face few other viable alternatives.

Is what it is....many stereotypes are based in reality.

When only considering college graduates you are correct, but what about the roughly half of all students that enroll at state colleges, and never graduate? These students should have been screened out, and steered to other types of job training, instead they are left with large debts, and no marketable skills. Within that population of college graduates you are going to find graduates with a 2.1GPAs in general studies, and frat life, most of these graduates will not earn more that a good welder or plumber during the course of their working life.
