Marriage is easy for people who aren't selfish. It's actually very rewarding. It's a vessel to help a man and a woman through life. I love my wife more than I do myself and would die for her.

It is a good movie, but I was thinking of a documentary on Netflix, I think it's called "Bukowski, Born Into This"

Is there honestly a point to getting married? I feel like dating with separate bank account/ property is the only way to do it.

My wife makes a ton of money so I'm not too worried about the divorce situation.

Marriage isn't easy for anyone unless you're deluding yourself. I agree that it's rewarding but in my experience is that easy things aren't rewarding.

Also, you can be selfless and not make a marriage work.

I really hate the assumption that most divorces happen because one person got mad at the other for not loading the dishwasher properly, or whatever. I loved being married, and tried very hard. I can't control his mental health, nor could I make him get as much help as he needed. I tried for years. After years of sustained awful, I reached my breaking point. In his opinion, I didn't try. In mine, I tried for years, and finally got strong enough to leave or drown with him.

Leaving my marriage is the hardest thing I've done. We had no kids, and it still took me a long time to decide to leave. Staying would have been easier. But easy doesn't mean it would have been for the best.

I know people want to believe that giving 110% will make a marriage good - there is some luck involved.

Not as messy with no kids. When kids are involved along with infidelity, it is a long damn hard road back to sanity.

It requires both people giving 100% and I think sometimes its good to see a marriage counselor for a tune up.

Boy meets girl. Girl is deaf. Boy doesn't sign. Bad things happen. They work out differences, get married. Have baby. Boy learns a little sign. More bad things happen. Girl takes baby and files for divorce. Boy never beat his wife or cheat but was not perfect. Boy asked for forgiveness and got counseling. Girl won't give two fricks and still wants divorce.

Woah. You implied it was something small. Him not learning to sign is a pretty big deal especially if he agreed to it ahead of time. Even if she can read lips or has an implant. Knowing sign language is huge with deaf people, being their main form of communication throughout life. There are tons of parents with deaf kids that never learn how to sign other than the basics. Those kids grow up barely ever properly communicating with their parents.

I don't know the whole situation, but him not being a cheater or abuser doesn't mean she's wrong. Him never learning sign language basically shows her that he doesn't care enough to put the work in, well with that logic how much work is he gonna put in with her 10-20 years down the road.
