or german shepherd or a doberman or any other dog 75lbs+ that's got teeth and an operating jaw.

also, as a dog ages and their vision gets bad, and some will start to get hostile or snappy because they can't see or aren't familiar with their surroundings.

i get it. pits are strong and bite harder. kennel the dog when you have more people over than just the family. i'm saying i take ALL precautions with my dog because her life means more to me than the person she might bite. this OP sucks because he's blaming the dog again- not the owners.

it's dogism.

you're not allowed to post anymore today because you compared a fricking tiger and a dog just now. go sundown somewhere else, old man.

I won't deny the fatality statistics because that is a simple truth. It is also true the dogs are largely raised by ignorant people and a lot of the time come from a fighting background. Go look through the people mentioned in the same article who died from dog bites. The large majority are easily identifiable as lower class where the dogs, like the kids unfortunately, probably had a very rough upbringing and weren't cared for properly. My dog would never harm another person or dog as he was raised right. I am 99.999% confident in that

A lot of stupid in this thread. Those of you saying pits need to be banned or that they're way more dangerous than any other dog know Jack shite about dogs.

No, using anecdotal evidence, such as the one you posted, is not what I'm doing. I'm presenting facts. You are presenting nothing but your personal experiences.

it's a dog. they aren't the ones landing on the moon or developing hybrid cars.
they are manageable creatures- with exceptions.
those exceptions should be kenneled when some dumb frick kid starts thinking it's a good idea to poke it.

"look mommy i play with dog
:smashes dog with bat:
ouch i'm bleeding from my neck because i'm a dumbass kid who fricked with the dog."

um... yeah that's right. i couldn't care less about joe blow walking past me and saying "hey can i pet your dog"
i say "frick you joe blow. she might bite you. goodbye."
i know how to control my dog or put her in a kennel if i feel like the situation isn't under MY ENTIRE control.

None come close to killing at the rate of a Pitt.

It's not just about being aggressive, it's how dangerous they are when they become aggressive.

the pit-bull terrier is first and last a fighting dog. Its breeding history separates it from other tough dogs like Doberman pinschers and rottweilers, which have been bred to guard their masters and their property. Pit bulls are genetically wired to kill other dogs.

The pit bull's unusual breeding history has produced some bizarre behavioral traits, de- scribed by The Economist's science editor in an article published a few years ago, at the peak of a heated British controversy over dangerous dogs that saw the pit bull banned in England. First, the pit bull is quicker to anger than most dogs, probably due to the breed's unusually high level of the neurotransmitter L-tyrosine. Second, pit bulls are frighteningly tenacious; their attacks frequently last for 15 minutes or longer, and nothing—hoses, violent blows or kicks—can easily stop them. That's because of the third behavioral anomaly: the breed's remarkable insensitivity to pain. Most dogs beaten in a fight will submit the next time they see the victor. Not a defeated pit bull, who will tear into his onetime vanquisher. This, too, has to do with brain chemistry. The body releases endorphins as a natural painkiller. Pit bulls seem extra-sensitive to endorphins and may generate higher levels of the chemical than other dogs. Endorphins are also addictive: "The dogs may be junkies, seeking pain so they can get the endorphin buzz they crave," The Economist suggests.

It's genetic, it's innate to the breed. It's something an invisible signal sets off and many times without warning

Their attacks are longer, more viscous, come with no warning and usually don't stop until the prey is dead. It's in their genes

If a kid poked and prodded my border collie, she would never bite the kid. You don't excuse a dog biting a kid because of a poke.

Parents should definitely watch their kids. On my trip home I stopped at a rest area to let shack pee. He was on a leash. I turned around to grab some water for him out of the car and turned back around and some kid had shack’s head in a death grip giving him a hug. Thank god he likes kids and was just standing there. He’s a 60lb pound dog and that could’ve been very bad.

The parents finally wandered over and told him not to approach strange dogs.

i'll need about 19 more credible sources from OTHER 'science editor's' who clearly understand the inner workings of genetics to ever blame the breed over the owner.

I don’t think anyone is “anti-dog breed”.

They are “anti-defenseless child being attacked by top aggressive dog breed”.

Nobody wants to take your German Shepherd away.

I have read that very thing from multiple professional dog trainers. So I debate your qualifications to call it horse shite. Are you an experienced and published dog trainer?

Bias generally will never accept fact without some sort of cognitive compromise

The dogs have been bred as killers, it's in their DNA. They attack unprovoked, are highly immune to pain, attack longer and more viciously because that's what they've been bred to do.

rebel, shut the frick up.

you quoted a science editor.
i recognize the aggressive nature in the breed. i'm saying there are other dog breeds known to be as aggressive, and they don't get the same stigma as pits.
there are more k9 attacks on humans everyday because of the police. shepherds are so much more prone to aggressive attack, imo.

frick pit bulls and their owners. This shite always seems to happen and the owners, 100% of the time, claim the dog was never violent in the past. The breed should be outlawed and owners should be ticketed with severe fines.
