There are a lot of open jobs in LA.

That’s not it.

The labor force is really, really fricking bad.

I think the current governor is a complete goober, but youre just playing identity politics. He hasn't done anything egregious enough for this to be true. It's not like the state wasn't a complete shite hole before he took office.

Lake Charles area has a ton of imported labor for the LNG projects in Hackberry/Cameron as well as Sasol. Imported from Alabama, Texas, etc.

Why doesn’t public high schools in NOLA do more “shop” classes for scaffold building and pipefitting?

You just don't realize how screwed up Louisiana is until you move out of it.

Moved to Colorado from Baton Rouge and my only regret is that I didn't make the move sooner.

I couldn’t agree more.

I'm unemployed, and have been looking for a while. The problem, for me, is every entry-level job in the entire state wants someone with 3+ years of experience in that very specific industry. Because of that, people are having to move away for jobs.

Or, they could just wait tables. If they do that, at least the state gets to claim less job losses

Massive tax increase, migration out of La. and you see the result.

This can only be said with a straight face by someone who thinks the default Louisiana Governor is an anti-business trial lawyer that never met a tax increase he didn’t like. That makes Edwards par for the course. Maybe even above average by Louisiana standards for not being indicted yet.

Yup. I saw my layoff coming. Started looking months in advance and didn’t find anything.

Other industries put a negative stigma on oil and gas workers. They think that once the prices go back up you’ll vanish like a fart in the wind.
Moved away and would only go back after retirement.

Name 5 companies that have left or avoided the state because of JBE. I'll wait.

Our problems go back a century, pinning the blame on one governor is dishonest.

We need to rewrite the state constitution. That's really the only way forward. I'm not sure what the political appetite for that is though.

Honestly, in today’s economy, if you’re not mobile/willing to relocate, it just makes it really difficult to land an above adequate job.

My chick is stuck here for at least a year, so it is less than advantageous for me to move.

That being said, I have exhausted almost all resources in Louisiana trying to find a job that suits me. Started looking in adjacent states yesterday. I don't know where these Louisiana companies plan on getting their picture perfect employees, but it sure as shite isn't here

I hope you’re still applying to those jobs. Those “requirements” are often waived if you interview well and have the skills they’re looking for.

The problem with LA and the workforce is that there’s basically NOTHING drawing people to the state. I know it’s a firm red state but if you invest in education, parks, low individual taxes, sales tax breaks, improved infrastructure, and invest in a few towns to really encourage a nice home life, people will come.

This is very true.

A lot of people from Mississippi, Alabama, and Texas have moved to Lake Charles to staff those new mega-plants.
