I worked in Lafayette down the hall from 5 other dudes. The 6 of us are now in 6 different cities and 5 different states.

Statewide, the nonseasonally adjusted unemployment rate in June was 6.1 percent, up from 5.8 percent a year ago and above the national unemployment average of 4.2 percent. Baton Rouge's unemployment rate was 5.4 percent, up from 5.2 percent; New Orleans, 5.8 percent, up from 5.5 percent; and Lafayette, 6.1 percent, down from 6.2 percent.
I honestly don't understand how this is possible. O&G is up and nationally unemployment and labor participation are at record highs.it would make more sense if gas was in the shitter or something. In any event, that is a really bad sign.
Lots and lots of companies in the industry shed tons of excess costs in the downturn so they could operate profitably at lower $ per barrel - probably realized how much money they were wasting when oil was at $100 a barrel.

Stereotypes exist for a reason. It’s a risk. Many lower level OG jobs are held by degenerates that make much more money in that industry than they could make doing anything else. They don’t want to do another job for 1/4 of the pay. Money talks. Now that company has invested months into training a new hire and has to do the process all over again because Birdseed got the call that they want him back on the rig. I know job hunting is a pain in the arse, but so is employee hunting. Nobody is trying to fill a career type position with a flight risk

You just don't realize how screwed up Louisiana is until you move out of it.
Moved to Colorado from Baton Rouge and my only regret is that I didn't make the move sooner.
Yesterday, had someone ask me at my daughter's day care if I'm from Baton Rouge. I said no but lived there 13 years. I asked them how they liked Houston as they moved here 4 years ago and they said the same thing as your comment about Colorado. They said there biggest mistake was not moving to Houston sooner. So much more opportunity available.
