This has nothing to do with social distancing. It tracks movement.
Social distancing isn’t just “stay six feet from one another”
It’s staying away from people outside your household altogether.

Am I the only one that finds it concerning that the State is harvesting cell phone GPS data to see who is complying to the orders or not?
It’s not.
And it’s a company, not the state.
The data is passively harvested from network activity.
But yeah, the data harvesting is concerning.....but you should have already been there in the aftermath of the FB scandal a few years back.

Literally the first sentence when you click on the link explains that
It’s semantics but no.
It’s nothing on your phone, and GPS isn’t used.
The tracking is from communications with towers.
And unless I’m mistaken they crudely approximate user location based from that (advertised use for 911 direction).

How can they know this with any accuracy?
This.
I go to Walmart or Rouses, people are staying 6 feet apart.
This scorecard is fake news.

The trend nationally is that rural places have to travel longer distances to grocery stores and pharmacies
Fixed it for you.

Also funny how the "smart" places have a lot more cases.

Am I the only one that thinks it is obvious why rural states have more travel? They are obviously going to have further to travel for essentials, work, doctors visits, etc than someone that lives in a more densely populated area. I would think this would be common sense.

Maybe some people are getting out for a leisurely drive. No harm in that.

Easy for Orleans to social distance since they are all in the hospital from socializing.

That is so sadly and pathetically true.

I work in Slidell and if I go to Walmart or Roses people are staying 6 feet apart.
Social distancing is avoiding places you can get infected altogether.
News flash: if you go around town running errands, essential or not, you aren’t really practicing social distancing.
You are more likely to catch it because you touched a common surface, not because you entered someone’s six foot bubble
The six foot thing is just something to practice if you are in a situation where you must go out in public.
I’ve had someone rationalize to me yesterday that their group BBQ was okay because they were still social distancing and keeping 4-6 feet apart.

So we should just leave our phones at home.
