Louisiana/Texas married people, are you comfortable with community property?

No way I’d agree to a 50/50 split of property acquired during the marriage if a divorce were to happen. Most of the country uses the common law separate property system, which also has its faults, but at least you can keep what is yours (except for the scam known as alimony).
My wife is from Louisiana. If we were married and lived there still, I’d be inclined for a marriage contract outlining distribution in the case of dissolution.

It all depends on if the wife worked in the family business and was an asset to said business or if she just spent the profits thereof.

In Louisiana, the man gets fricked by the system more often than not. Any money paid on a debt that existed at the time of marriage by money earned during the marriage is considered community property. Even if that debt was essential to running the family business. And even if the wife never worked in the family business nor outside of the marriage in any manner to contribute to the family finances.

I know if I made a ban bet and lost, I’d follow through, especially if I told people that I honor deals.

Depends. Did she do other things that supported the household in other ways (running all the errands, handling bills/appointments, took care of the kids etc)
I wouldn't like it if she sat around and did nothing productive all day but I would never marry someone who would do that.
My wife and I make similar amounts so not really an issue for me.

Yeah I suppose. My wife works and actually makes more than I do (granted she has a graduate degree and I don’t). My question was just academic after many threads here about people going though possible divorce

exactly. if her doing "(running all the errands, handling bills/appointments, took care of the kids etc)" helps the business be ran more efficiently by freeing up time from the man having to do those things, that is an indirect contribution to the business
