The fact you think its propaganda tells me you have no fricking idea what you are talking about.

This is something I don't know much about, but its not helping that there are for profit prisons popping up.

Does anyone know if for profit prisons are only allowed in certain states.. Or if there are any in Louisiana?

Like any other business that has government contracts they will over charge while cutting cost.

That bullshite. It's obvious you buy all of that cost per prisoner propaganda. A previous poster tLSU laid.out that BS nicely earlier in the thread.

I just feel like you're trying to justify your job now though.

You think that's all they are in for do you? Not possibly other charges along with the drug charges?

Notice earlier the argument was about possession charges, now it has moved to all drug charges.

Just think about it rather than emoting about it. Like I said, a previous poster demonstrated how it was bs.

I agree about the private prisons. Some things are the government's responsibility and imcarceration is one.

So what do you think about people who commit the same crimes, but have the means to afford a better lawyer which results in them getting off with a slap on the wrist, while people are jail, for the same thing are spending years and years in prison?

If you believe what you believe you should be advocating for equal sentencing for equal crimes.

you don't understand! A focus on rehabilitation would be worse for Louisiana! What we're doing is working, we just haven't put enough people in jail yet

My job is not dependent on prisons or their population.

This is just a FYI, but I looked it up and as of 2017, there are two private prisons in La.

You can’t just point to this one thing in the correctional system and say, “that’s uncivilized!” and think that will solve anything. We have lots and lots of problems in our civilization. That’s my point.

The entire criminal justice system and America’s morbid obsession with low level crime and maximum punishment is indeed a very large problem that has created significant collateral damage to our social order.

Changing this approach would certainly yield positive social results for lower class people.

Yeah no one likes a thief, but someone said he was a kleptomaniac.

Now you're trying to move the argument elsewhere.

Forgetting hired attorneys, even amongst indigent defenders you will see a variety of outcomes. The same goes for judges. There is inherent variability that can only be addressed by mandatory sentencing which most on your side in this argument are against. So, now what?

Like I said, private prisons are not appropriate. You are correct, they cut costs while charging far more than needed.

Morbid obsession? Low level crime? Maximum punishment? Very large problem? Significant collateral damage? Social order?

You sure do like emotionally charged and ill-defined terms.

I'm conservative but I would let him out on parole. I've seen others do worse and get less time.

Yeah, I just looked that up out of curiosity. I guess I can look this up as well, but I bet private prisons are cash cows.
