I mean you kinda proving my point… you can’t overdose on fentanyl unless you doing hard drugs… this a transaction between two non-law abiding citizens… dealers offer users no guarantee

Except there's nothing stopping a dealer from lacing it into anything. The problem with fentanyl is that just touching it can be lethal.

A lethal dose of heroin vs a lethal dose of fentanyl

As the old saying goes, "familiarity breeds contempt". The more fentanyl is used, the greater the eventuality that you'll see some asshat sprinkling it onto brownies, etc. Because it's so ridiculously powerful, even if someone doesn't die from the contact they are going to have all sorts of problems.

I'm a big proponent of legalization (caveated with no government funds for addiction centers, because if you think you are responsible enough to get on drugs then you are going to have to be responsible enough to get off of them), but fentanyl is a whole different ballgame due to its insane potency.

I'ld be fine with the death penalty for anyone caught dealing anything laced with fentanyl (except if they turn on their supplier, who is then caught with fentanyl themselves). It's so ridiculously deadly, so ridiculously addictive and the money involved is such a huge incentive to deal it that I really don't think anything less than an equally ridiculously severe penalty is going to do much to deter it.

How are crackheads and gangbangers getting their hands on it? Serious and dumb question. This isn't some "made in the bathtub" drug, like meth (I assume).

Something like 95% of fentanyl in the US is manufactured in China and comes across the southern US border from Mexico via illegal immigration.

My knee-jerk is "let them distribute" and kill off all of the junkies, the dealers included. Self-sabotage.

Same, but the problem is it has already spread to non-junkies. Hell there have been cops who have had near-death experiences just from touching something that had only trace amounts of fentanyl on it (it's that strong). The longer it's allowed to proliferate (ie: without insanely strong penalties), the greater the chances of it being used on non-junkies/addicts or even users.

I had Fentanyl in the hospital once and wasn't very impressed. It must work very differently on others.

That was likely a very small dose and administered by professionals (but yes, the body does develop a resistance to its effects over time when there has been opioid use). That's going to be a whole different world than getting some pills from Pookie down the skreet which could have wildly varying amounts of fentanyl (or none at all) in it.

Drug dealers are executed daily in the US & probably more than the rest of the world that you seem to admire( China, Saudi Arabia, N Korea etc...) with their draconian punishments. These places have no 4th amendment & few protections against personal searches that makes it easier to suppress any illegal activity.

In Brazil & Mexico, in particular, there are hundreds or thousands of videos online of public executions of drug dealers( beheadings, dismemberment, public displays of corpses), but there is no shortage of dealers taking their places. To protect your precious addicts the most effective way is to roll back the 4th amendment which is a horrible thought.

Personally, I hate life in prison. Much prefer firing squad or public hanging to discourage this.

Google "beheading or drug gang executions" Mexico or Brazil. It's already happening daily with drug dealers being executed in the streets all across the Americas, just not by the state . No shortage of drug dealers who are aware of the consequences.

I’ll bet every dollar in my bank account that no one in the history of this country has overdosed from fent by taking a pill they got from a brick and mortar store.

Legalize all drugs; save lives.

But they are getting hooked on it from legal drugs then going black market because its cheaper and more potent.

They carry Narcan in hospitals not just to give to people on the street, but because even administering fentanyl to you under professional supervision can lead to you overdosing right there in the hospital.

what triggered you the most? talkin shite about law enforcement or suggesting weed be legal so the state would have less ODs?

cause if its the law enforcement thing you can suck my arse. ive got little love in my heart for bullies with badges that carry water for politicians and steal from the people. im no frickin liberal either so you can keep the next wild assumption to yourself as well

There will never be a life sentence handed down
Or they will be eligible in 5 years for release

Guy I knew got arrested a couple weeks ago for dealing fent and he's tied to 3 OD deaths in the last couple months. He's been to prison before for dealing, most recently back in October of last year. The police picked him up at this house I was staying at and picked up 9 other people along with him (they were there for him but caught all these people with stuff) and I would have made number 10 but went to treatment about two weeks prior. Anyways his bond is at $240k and pretty sure he's not getting out any time soon if ever.

Bruh just no. Unless you're touching it with your tongue I guess. I used to shoot a half gram of fent every several hours which is a massive shot but granted I had a massive tolerance. I've ODed a couple times that way. No one is gonna die just by touching it though.

You’d think we’d learn from these mandatory minimums one day. Absolutes dont work with prison sentences or anything in reality.

Yea it does. One reason New Orleans is so bad now is the Orleans parish prison pre Katrina was a 6500 bed facility. Today it’s 1700.

The US saw a dramatic decrease in violent crime starting mid 90’s. Did all the psychopaths get cured? No we locked them up and threw away the key.

You think there isn’t a correlation to ending cash bail, soft on crime and early release programs and a higher crime rate?

The state of California turned out over 40K inmates in early release starting in 2019. They have a 67% recidivism rate.
