Hell, I'm going to have to wrap my pipes in mid February
Out of personal experience old people in Louisiana always love to say "ahh February is always the coldest month in Louisiana"
Even though climatologically it's not... But Baton Rouge's all time low temperature of 2 occurred in February.

My concern is I am leaving to go out of town on Tuesday until Saturday. Is it smartest to simply drain everything and shut the water off at the main? Water heater is electric and is in the attic. I have two exterior faucets. House is built on a slab and I’m in BR.
Or should I run heater and open all doors, attic access, and cabinets? I realize if we lose power, then this does nothing.
TIA

Call your builder. This should be against code.
It’s damn sure against common sense.

So, that's what we're calling it now?

Well I’ll have to check. Good chance I’m wrong and it’s gas

How am I crazy? I’m simply asking for advice. I don’t want to come home to busted pipes after being gone all week. If the general consensus is to not do anything, then that’s going to be the plan.

Having had a water heater fail that was in a closet in the back porch I can’t imagine that coming through my ceiling. Drain pans get clogged and it’s just asking for trouble having them in the attic IMO.

Does driving from Fredericksburg, TX back to Laffy on Tuesday seem feasible/safe? Got people going there for the weekend and want to know.
I would advise against it. If it snows on Monday and possible another snow on Wednesday with temps as low as they are, driving home on Tuesday would be treacherous.

Probably going to go drain everything and shut off the water at our Lakehouse on Cedar Creek Lake. Won’t get down there for at least a week after this weather sits here and it’s not worth worrying about it.

just postponed a baseball game here in CenLA for Tuesday afternoon
seems like a reasonable thing to do
also... basketball team is supposed to be in Clarksville, Ark. tomorrow... but that was also canceled... with good reason

I've never liked the idea of having water above my head in a home. I know alot of builders put water heaters in the attic, but I've never been a fan.

Nothing like swinging an aluminum bat and making contact on a subfreezing day. My hands hurt just thinking about it.
