Not enough to prevent them from asking for more immediately needed financial support for their new art complex

No we just see political money grabs when they happen, unlike you. NOLA has a lot of patients, but we have been hearing for weeks they are almost on the verge of potentially having to think about using the last normally available beds.

Weeks, I say!!!!!!!!!!

We’re in week ..........., 2.

Seems like if I had a fleet of cruise ships I'd be trying to convert them to hospital ships. Gotta be a huge gubment check for services like that. Not to mention the PR boost

Louisiana's public health website, linked below, which is updated at noon every day, says there are 927 COVID-19 patients in hospitals around the state.

Of those 927 patients, 336 of them are on ventilators.

According to WWL, as of Wednesday, March 25, Louisiana has a patient bed capacity of 22,142 and there were 10,000 beds available for patients.

LINK

So hospitals statewide were at 55% of capacity.

That doesn't sound like "we're almost on the verge of being at capacity."

It's in the same top secret facility as the COVID Death Star the Air Force has under development.

Chicken can't (or won't - dunno, maybe it's good for clicks) keep the gates closed on the PoliBoard and those retards are running amok all over the place. It's been getting worse over the past few years.

What is needed is critical care bed capacity. The real issue in Louisiana right now is not ventilators. It's people qualified to appropriately manage a proned and paralyzed patient on crrt on a ventilator in ARDS. In other words a critical care nurse. You can make all the beds you want but you have to have people to man them. That person can't be made overnight. Some hospitals are already over capacity. The issue is worsened by the fact that the patients who wind up on a vent in ARDS tend to be on the ventilator for a week+. These people have extended stays in the ICU not a one or two night stay like say your typical MI or DKA. Med/surg space isn't so critical because none of the regular surgical admits are taking up space because elective surgeries have been halted.

I don’t know about over capacity but I know Ochsner Main is almost full and have cancelled all heart surgeries to free up space in that new wing.

Like i said earlier, y’all can downplay it all you want. SOME hospitals are getting hit hard.

I understand all of that but if you read Dr. Cassidy's comments, that wasn't what he was referring to.

Luckily there are travel nurses and overtime pay to solve those issues for now.

As of yesterday it was reported about 50% of beds were available. About 30% in GNO.

This is about right. In fact it's probably closer to 40% in the GNO.

Not sure how true it is, but I heard something about setting up hospital beds in the convention center to deal with the overflow.

Here's the sort of "overflow" that will need to be dealt with.

1. Nsg Home pt's that are ready for discharge back to the Nsg Home and the Nsg Home refuses to take them back.

2. Homeless people

3. Group Home residents who are denied return.

4. Assisted living center residents who are denied return.

5. Chronic patients with no post acute options.

These overflow beds we're hearing about aren't for people who have somewhere to go post discharge

And although public officials are talking as though they'll be used when hospitals fill up. They really won't be used that way.

In other words. If you get sick with china cough after all these overflow beds are in place. You won't be sent there unless GNO acute care hospitals are completely overrun by covid cases or you have no place to go post discharge.

And before any of you say hospitals will be "overrun". Keep this in mind. At this very moment, there are healthcare professionals all over the GNO twiddling their thumbs because their hospitals are damn near half empty. Yes that can change but right now, if you work in a GNO hospital, you're doing just fine.
