This became obvious as every time somewhere drew near the ventilators suddenly appeared.

Latest report form DHH is we have 2990 vents in the state, 1950 are available, 127 C19 pts are on vents, and 347 ICU beds are available. This is statewide, Region 1, NOLA has most of the pts on vents

No I trust the numbers of patients and those on vents.
I don’t trust that we’re gonna surpass nyc and Italy which is what JBE implied today. THAT is what I don’t trust.

The LDH website today numbers showed 490 on vents — I’m just not seeing it maybe I just can’t fathom needing multiple thousands of them.
I just don’t trust the outlook of needs that we’re being told.

I agree, it’s just a play to get as many federal dollars as possible by JBE. This thing is obviously blown way out of proportion. People are going to die and I pray for them every day, but this group think bullshite by the government has to stop.

It’s not near as bad as the models were first indicating. However, I think another two weeks is reasonable to see where we are locally, with another two weeks after that to really hammer it down.
As we move forward, the new 5 minute tests (50,000 per day) will start having a huge impact very quickly, w/in 3-5 days towards the efficiency of hospital beds and quarantines. In addition, there is another company getting a 2 minute test out, (I forget their capacity numbers) so it is great that companies are exponentially increasing testing measures. We will be able to know very quickly what needs to be done.
By the end of April, agencies will be able to look around and see the results of two weeks of “instant testing” and implement best-procedures. Couple this with ramped up ventilator, drug, and PPE manufacturing, I really can’t see us getting past May 15 still locked down...and that’s my conservative, unqualified, opinion.
America never ceases to amaze me.

It wouldn’t matter how many ventilators they had they don’t have them staff to manage them.

Are they going to let “I want a test just because” people have one? I personally would like the antibody test when available. I work in a nursing home and would like to see my people but know I’m safe to do it (consultant working from home at this time). I miss them — well most of them.

Right which is why I’m questioning what we in Louisiana are being told. If they’re trying to scare me, it’s not working. It’s pissing me off more than anything.

A whole other issue — you can’t just pull anyone to an icu bed with a vent patient!!

I'm not trivializing what ICU nurses do, but critical care nursing can be learned sufficiently on the fly.
I wouldn't want that type of learning in everyday situations, but this isn't an everyday situation.
