THIS is why we can't have nice things in this state! Positive economic news and the 1st 3 replies are negative. Some people will never be happy. Negati ity breeds negativity. Debbie downers

Why is economic development good? Because it employs more people and results in more tax revenue. However, if these projects are all exempted from taxes and aren’t employing more additional workers than they’re costing in tax revenue, is there actually a net benefit? It’s the same cost-benefit analysis that went into the film subsidies debate10 years ago.

We are on the back end of the shite and we need the jobs to provide folks or they will leave. Cheaper than welfare I guess.

I'm with you, but we've been burned for so long, it's hard not to be negative. Yes industry is great, but Louisiana needs to capitalize off it and not give in to shitty demands as in tax breaks. You coming here for a reason, give us something besides "jobs". Some things look great from the road "Oh it's so developed out here", but the state doesn't see a dime except for politicians that got greased.

Do the people working here not pay taxes when they buy beer, soda, food gas? Maybe they're exempt from state payroll deductions if they're from out of state, unsure. There's no doubt a trickle down effect
Perhaps, this is just the beginning, give it time. Some of you can't see the forest for the trees

Agree.

Yep.

And, I question, especially since no link was provided, if that $180 Million figure is actual projects that have been built, or if that is just totaling up announced projects, some of which have already been called off or scaled back by the companies. Because that’s definitely a reoccurring theme.

every prospering area gives tax breaks to industry. The highest hurdle for Louisiana is workforce. And that won’t be improved for decades if ever.
