I can’t find it but didn’t JBE allocate federal money that was for hurricane season or storm damage to the train?

But don’t give up yet, the state is going to spend another 500K to study the situation.
This is Louisiana so this is obviously how some people (politicians, politicians’ families) make their living.
Don’t worry. We didn’t miss out on anything. It was never gonna happen. Ever.

Incredibly dumb waste of money. Cool idea doesn't mean feasible.

But we're sending 3 billion to the UN for "climate change"

We're still spending 8.2 billion on infrastructure projects, Louisiana just isn't getting this money for this project. Not funding the train doesn't mean the money isn't being spent.

A waste of money and effort.
If there is demand for mass transit between BR and NO then a private bus line can fill it.

This state has a mountain load of pressing problems that plague this place. A passenger train from BR to NOLA is absolutely NOT one of them. Maybe set up an actual functioning infrastructure to support getting around the BR when this train arrives, or perhaps an actual reasoning to go to Baton Rouge outside of football season and the novelty of traveling by train for who knows why in sacrificing getting around town when you arrive and carrying things for business.
The things people in this state wring their hands over while not sweating the meat and potatoes of our woes is mind boggling.

People will not ride it. You would have to price out the riff raff first.

Found it,
So what happens to this money now?
quote:
Earlier this year, Louisiana reached a deal with the federal government to end a long-winding and contentious battle over misspent grant money that was part of the Road Home program, aimed at helping victims of hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005.
As part of the deal, Louisiana would only have to pay $32.5 million back to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development—a dramatic decrease from $300 million it could have owed.
But this summer, HUD unexpectedly told Gov. John Bel Edwards’ administration that it could keep $20.5 million of that money, as long as the state spent it to help people in parishes most impacted by the devastating 2005 storms.
Edwards’ administration has decided to spend that money on the long-planned but slow-moving New Orleans-Baton Rouge passenger rail line.
So what happens to this money now?

How about fix the roads and bridges that are crumbling before even considering dumping billions upon billions into a damn hairbrained commuter rail?
How about spend a few Billion on both?

Get clean rail going from BR to NO that's well policed and costs less than a normal commute, everyone that's so invested in their personal vehicles will make the transition. This shown over and over and over.
Most people wouldn’t take this rail even if it were FREE! It would likely take 2hrs+ when you figure in time getting to the train station/getting to your end destination.

This train was always a dumb idea.

Better way to see this is Louisiana already got its share of Fed tax dollars to pay for the poors here.
Going for the train as well would make Louisiana's already inflated piece of the pie even larger.

This country is complete and utter dogshit, our infrastructure is crumbling and we fund billions for wars in Ukraine and Gaza. Insanity.
We'd agree that defense spending is important, right? We need to ensure national security, keep rogue nations at bay, etc.
How much do you think a full-scale war against Russia would cost us per year? $200B? $500B?
In almost 2 years, we've spent $44B total to significantly harm an arch adversary on the global stage. Russia has lost over a hundred thousand soldiers, lost morale, are spending out the arse to fight in Ukraine, and are seriously diminishing their military assets.
And it's only cost us less than 5% of our defense budget to do it. There's a reason proxy wars are popular amongst politicians.
