For this reason, the lockdowns are actually harmful at this point. We need people to be getting infected over the summer, hopefully in a more gradual way. Most people won't even know they have it. There are articles on NPR and elsewhere this morning where Sweden's ambassador is saying that they expect to have herd immunity in Stockholm by the end of May. We'll have to see how that plays out, but more and more it is looking like Sweden is the only country to play this the right way.

Right. Who's buying a $50 bottle of wine from a restaurant that they can get at the store for $23? Takeout won't sustain many of these places.

So I'm called an idiot for thinking restaurants won't survive this? I know managers and owners of some pretty well know restaurants and they are shitting their pants right now

Yeah, it's real bad. This spring festival season is what so many of them bank on to make enough money to stay open through the slow summer.

Pretty sure in non-tourist areas they'll be able to hit that 50% on a near consistent basis. No need to have a full Friday to make up for a dead Wednesday.
With people working from home (still), there's no commute. So, plenty of people will be able to shift "date night" around as needed to avoid Friday/Saturday night.
They can also jack up the prices a bit. People have been at home for 6 weeks, there are going to be plenty of people not cooking a meal for some time. Demand will be there. Frick, half the OT would go get a $50 ribeye on $10 pint night at Applebees if they can get out of the house.
Aside from Nola which gets a lot of it's restaurant dollars from tourism - I'm not too worried about that market.

Some will some wont...the ones that wont will just be taken over or bought by another restaurant group. The places that were worth a shite arent just going to close forever.....some will just re open under new management.

even so, and they did open tomorrow, in nola, these restaurants need tourists to survive

Who the hell is going to be coming to Nola in any big numbers to keep all 1100 or so restaurants open? Nothing is happening for at least four months.

With every delivery app known to man available in the NOLA area, plus restaurants doing their own deliveries, curb side, take out, and if they are allowed to open at 50% capacity....they will be fine. Sure some will close, but will reopen at some point.
