Jury threshold in La is $50K. Next highest is Maryland at $15K
And a few years back when one legislator proposed a bill that would lower the threshold, some other one proposed a bill that would've raised it to $75,000

Another thing to consider is the tolerant drunk driving enforcement
Not saying I disagree with you but this would play a very minor role in overall rate. The sue happy nature of lawyers against carrier is the prime driver, then followed by uninsured/under-insured.

I moved from Baton Rouge to a state in the Midwest.
Called my insurance to get my auto switched over...my total 6 month policy was $10 more than what I was paying per month in Baton Rouge. Same car, same coverage, city has bigger population that Baton Rouge
And what makes it even more absurd is where I live now gets snow all winter which leads to a ton of fender beneders and crashes due to snow and ice. And the roads get torn up due to winter and lots of potholes from the freeze/thaw cycles (although they get filled in days...which is amazing in its own right after living in Louisiana my whole life)

The quality of roads and the quality of drivers doesn't have anything to do with it?

Been discussed plenty in here. The insurance rating commission is a bunch of insurance folks.
Also, we have floods and hurricanes that destroy lots of property. The injury side of things barely makes a dent in state fatm’s bittom line.

Extremely high rates, but probably not as high as they should be.
Shitty roads
Shitty drivers
Uninsured/underinsured drivers
Shitty judges
TV lawyers

But they won't because too many state legislators are lawyers themselves or have lawyers donating to their campaigns.
And Governors

I know the approvals of the LA PSC occurred at a Resort in Toledo Bend with the companies requesting increases. Not a single increase was denied on their buddy buddy fishing trip. I imagine its the same with insurance.

Every year, about 421,000 people are injured in crashes that have involved a driver who was distracted in some way. Each year, over 330,000 accidents caused by texting while driving lead to severe injuries. This means that over 78% of all distracted drivers are distracted because they have been texting while driving.Jan 23, 2015

Thank a personal injury lawyer.

Rates are affected by the judicial climate , but there are other factors which impact your individual rates.
What are the ages of drivers on your policy?
Any tickets by any of the drivers in last three years?
Chargeable accidents in last three years?
wher edo you live? Length of commute?

Not gonna happen. We should look at making autobraking and lane keeping tech standard.
