If it is on a slab it costs 3 times what moving a house not on a slab does. YOu have to tunnel through the slab to get the lifting beams under it. It is a nightmare.

That’s the dumbasses problem, not the landowner, so I hope she prevails in court.

She can always just request they remove the ILLEGALLY built home and restore her property back to its original condition. She isnt required to do anything other than seek just compensation for their huge mistake.

How in the heck does this happen?

As scarce as good land is in Hawaii and depending on which Island it wouldn't surprise me if it was intentional. Thinking they could bully and or offer the owner something to swap the land.

The developer is an idiot and should get fricked here.

But let’s not feel sorry for the lady either. She bought it at a tax auction and hadn’t been to the land in years, like 5 years. It was likely strictly an investment and she is trying to play the poor old me card to make more money here. It’s her right. But I’m not feeling sorry for her either.

I don’t know the details but if she truly bought it for $22.5k even at a tax auction it can’t be that amazing

Agree and if she is willing to fight them in court for years she would almost certainly win

Or she could settle and make a profit now

Why would she be fighting in court for years? This shite, is cut and dry not some he said , he said situation. Developer and contractor are 100% at fault here without a doubt. She is under no obligations to work with them. If I was her I move into the house and change the locks and tell the developer to suck it.

It doesn't have to be amazing. They built homes on old lava flows out there.
