One of my favorite scenes in Mad Men is at a birthday party where some kid is running around and spills a drink. An adult, not his parent, slaps the shite out him, and nobody thought anything of it. Youtube

When I was a kid, my mom would say, "See that guy over there. I'm going to let him whip your arse if you don't shut the frick up."

My dad would ask me if I wanted to go to the bathroom. Never ever go to the bathroom because there are no witnesses there.

Dude, do not lose any sleep over this. A, my kids would not have stepped out like that bc of a little thing called Cause and Effect which is what we live by. But if by some reason I was not there and they felt the need to test the old adage I would be greatful for someone to speak up. And for the "parents" you supposedly saw, the truth is They will let anyone have a kid in this town....

Don't feel badd I went off on some kids a few years ago in church and the mother thanked me for it. I looked her square in the eye and said you should not be thanking me for doing your job

Maybe 8-9 beers would give you the courage to confront the parents next time

So many better ways it could have been handled. Calmly ask kids to not run around your table, ask waitstaff or manager to address with the parents or simply speak to the parents personally.

After waiting for almost 15 min for the parents to do the polite thing and intervene I look over to them and they could care less just having some drinks.

Might’ve been the problem.

Im not a psychologist, but kids who are allowed to act like jackasses usually grow up to be jack asses. They will be catching flack the rest of their lives for their behavior, might as well start with you.

I understand how annoying out of control kids can be, but it isn't appropriate to yell at a child. You should have addressed the parents if you had an issue, or left an went somewhere not kid friendly.

I've been out with friends and had a older gentleman ask to please keep the child quite. I thought it was a bit ridiculous considering he wasnt being obnoxious. But the parents talked to their child and we all went about the night. Things probably would have taken a bad turn if that guy came over and yelled at the kid.
