I lost my mom on New Year's Eve 10 years ago this year. New Year's Eve was difficult the first couple of years but now means something more. It's a time for my brothers and I to celebrate the most wonderful, selfless person we've ever known or ever will know.

Whoever down votes a person that recently (or at anytime) has lost someone that is near and dear to them can eat a bag of dicks. I love the OT for what it is, but many of you are a bunch of pussies that hide behind the keyboard. I would love to see the upvote | downvote feature reveal who actually does this.

I will never understand how this could happen... I just noticed this after reading your post... I know its just a message board, But those who downvoted need to be held accountable........

I think downvotong means different things to different people. I didn't vote either way for the OP, but I assumed down voters were showing they were sad for the OP and didn't like the news. Up voting such a sad post seems weird to me.

His bday is New Years eve. Lot of alcohol and weed will be consumed.

You think that is the best way to handle this man???? Not harping on ya, Just thinking of being with the Family would seem like a better idea.... However you choose be careful.

I'm just going to celebrate his bday like I always did. This'll be a first though celebrating with tears in my drink.

I'm careful. I don't drive anywhere on NYE. Won't be with family but I'll be with my lady.

Not that it matters to him, maybe, but it helps me to feel that he's not forgotten. Maybe it's silly, but I don't want him to be lonely.

I think you're the one who feels lonely. You're missing a piece of you that can never be replaced. You have to believe that he would not want you to be or feel so isolated and that the thought of him should comfort you. He knows you won't ever forget him. Just my 2 cents. Keep staying strong

Three weeks ago we were told my grandmother has cancer and it's pretty much every where now. She's been given 2-6 months to go so this is most likely her last Christmas. Her birthday is also Christmas eve which doesn't help.

It's not the same as grieving a lost love one but it still hurts.

I would but the few clues I'd give would be instantly searched by the OT and his story would come up very easily and my last name would be known.

I agree with this. This is how I feel. I have plenty of friends and plenty to keep me busy but I'm just lonely.

My brother and I weren't even as close as we were our first 26 years together. Now, if I could just have one last conversation with him I'd give up everything I have.

Lost my dad 10 yrs ago this month. Really put a damper on Christmas for a while. Over time you start to heal somewhat, but there's always a missing piece, especially over the holidays. Stay close with your Mom and siblings, be each other's safety net. I'm so sorry for your loss, but believe it or not it gets better with time. Be patient and keep your glass half full.

My granny passed Wednesday night. Gramps went in may. It will be the first Christmas I've had without them. Just how it goes I guess.

My grandfather died a few weeks before Chrsitmas a few years ago. He always said he wanted to live long enough to see all of his grand- children graduate college.

He died in his sleep 2 days after attending my youngest cousin's graduation ceremony
