I just lost my Dad Thanksgiving morning.
Between the stress of losing him and having to settle all of his affairs and do something with all of his stuff, Im pretty much a zombie these days and cant stayed focused at all.

Really? I'd say something ugly to you but this isn't the thread.
We buried my mom the day before Thanksgiving In 2005. Thanksgiving pretty much sucks

Christmas is about his kids. Really that simple. He lost his elderly father who's had a long battle of cancer. It sucks but go be with your kids and family. It's not hard doing what's right and continuing fatherhood.

I just said my goodbyes to my grandmother today. They don't expect her to make it through the weekend. The word "sucks" comes to mind, but it's nowhere near enough. Christmas won't be Christmas though. I hope your family finds a way to keep his spirit alive and make it through this holiday season together.

Very sorry for your loss MJ2. I lost my dad on the night before thanksgiving 2010 to suicide. He was 66.I still miss him terribly and still relive that night but it does get better. We spent Thanksgiving day at Resthaven making arrangements and trying to make some kind of sense of it all. I still can't make sense of it but what's done is done and I just try to live my life the best I can for my wife and kids. It will get better.

quote:my Dad was only 66. He didn't even get to enjoy retired life. Fought cancer for 5 years and went into remission twice. I do however recognize most of the other posters down votes as they are. Simply an acknowledgement of how bad it is to lose such a close family member during the holidays.

I feel your pain.
Dec 1 marked the one year mark of the SO's Dad dropping dead of a heart attack at 51.
She buried her grandfather Wednesday.
Last night I found out my only remaining granddad's cancer had come back and he starts chemo Tuesday. Only remaining grandparent at this point.
My other grandad, died in July.
My Uncle died a few months back too.
Been a shittastic year.

My father was murdered when I was 3 years old. Will be 20 years unsolved this June. But luckily it was on his birthday and not around the holidays.

Sorry to hear that man.

Luckily, I haven't, but I nearly lost my cousin 2 years ago after our family Christma party. She and her husband had just left and were rammed by a truck that ran a stop sign.

My sister in law lost her 18 year old daughter to cancer around Christmas time a few years ago. It's a really tough time for her and I guess it always will be.

Sorry for your loss. Wouldn't wish it on anyone else but for some reason it's good to be reassured it's not easy for anyone.
We're going through the same thing right now with my father. He's been fighting cancer about two years now. He's still holding on but most likely won't make it through the rest of the day.
Prayers to you and yours, mj2.

It hurts, regardless of the time of year and circumstances. I see how it can be consider as "worse" during this time of year.
Having gone through it with the loss of my father four years ago, I don't subscribe to the sentiment that you ever "get over" it. Instead, I refer to the emotion as "moving on", but there always remains a void where someone used to physically exist in your life. I think it best to recall that my dad had a good life, made impact upon many lives and that I am grateful that he is no longer suffering.

OMG i didn't see who posted this MJ2 so sorry about your dad he was a a fun guy to talk with and a great guy.
No lie its gonna be rough but more sad than anything, but you know that going into the holidays if you are over come with emotion jus let it out & while you are overcome with these emotions just reflect on stuff you and your pops did, birthdays and just random days will be sad, but THIS IS NORMAL don't dwell on it by keeping it to yourself talk it out with whomever is around people are very understanding more than you may think, you are not the only one who has or will lose someone during the season. You will be fine so, Sorry for you loss.

I'm sorry for your loss.
I lost my mom Sep 14, just a month after she was diagnosed August 7... She was diagnosed that her cancer had come back and metasticized. I was really unaware how bad it was; she went in for 10 rounds of radiation and then after the first round of chemo it went sideways and she was gone.
As it turns out, the treatment was to slow the growth of a tumor; she was never going to survive this fight. She kept that from us and the doctor was bound not to tell us. I have lots of guilt and doubt... For instance, after a couple of radiation treatments, she was down and saying she was going to die and I tried taking the rout of telling her that the fight was every bit as mental as it was physical. I didn't know what she was trying to tell me, that SHE WAS DYING.
I wonder how would have made it without treatment an what her quality of life would have been.
As it stands, we've had her birthday, Thanksgiving, my Dads birthday, and now the Christmas holidays. It's been rough and some days are especially worse than others. I'm not a cryer at all but I will be driving and the tears just start to flow.
What the hell is wrong with me.
