Yard eggs are so good. I get mine from a local Amish farmer twice a month.

There can be benefit to some standards, but USDA's "organic" requirements are not the most stringent.

"Organic" produce and foods in the US is one of the biggest rackets going. It is so convoluted.

Not to get overly political, but in the same way the CDC, FDA, etc are compromised by big pharma, there's some level of being compromised to Big Ag as well.

Case in point was during the Biden admin, when they started cracking down on Amish farmers for raw milk... when the Amish do it cleanly on a small scale and nobody gets sick... hence the march of the Amish to the voting booths to vote for Trump last November.

Meanwhile, they let big producers more or less cheat on what organic means, allowing them to overcharge an uninformed public for an inferior product. And these big producers steal market share from small producers who try to do it the right way and make a better product.

They had to kill off the hens that laid the offending eggs. Anytime there’s a large culling you see egg prices go up.

Where did you see this? I just re-read the article you shared and do not see this mentioned.

Regardless, I did notice something I missed the first time I skimmed the article: the egg recall for these eggs occurred the first week of June. Any increase in costs would have already happened.

I want to get some chickens but city ordinance says I can only have 3, but no roosters

But I guess if they can lay 6 a day that would be enough for us

I can have one goat & one bee hive, too

3 hens lay 6 eggs a day? No.
I have 14 hens, I get anywhere from 6-10 a day.

gotcha - I don’t know how the chickens work

I just know the rules for the city bc that’s what people used to call the library and ask when I worked there

3 hens, 1-3 a day probably, depending on breed.
Easier than cats.
