Looks like cruises may resume in July, but there's a catch says the CDC

Why aren't they making airlines do this? Hotels? Why are cruises singled out so much compared to other forms of travel.

Ships can begin limited sailings with passengers if 98 percent of its crew and 95 percent of its passengers are fully vaccinated, according to the CDC.

Two Carnival cruise ships returned to a popular Texas port on Sunday for the first time since the coronavirus pandemic halted the cruise industry more than a year ago.

The ships, the Carnival Breeze and Carnival Vista, arrived at the Port of Galveston, exciting local business owners who rely on sales from tourists who come to the city before heading out to sea, Click2Houston reported.

We booked a July cruise on the Caribbean Princess last night for me, my wife, our kids, and my MIL. When my wife booked it I asked about vaccination requirements. From what she said I think all they do is test everyone coming on board who doesn’t have proof of vaccination.

Sure, the bar they are setting is never going to be reached, but Cruise ships were notorious for spreading disease before all of this happened.

Remember when that cruise had the shits for like a week and they quarantined it/shut it down?

Now imagine that with covid.

Probably because you're stuck on a floating mall for weeks at a time and nowhere to go.

these are ridiculous restrictions, but cruise ships are far different the airlines and hotels simply because you don't leave

cruise ships have always been notorious for viruses spreading like wildfire among the passengers

That is the guidance Princess put out a month ago, you would either need to be vaccinated or show proof of a negative test within 3 days of departure. They will also be doing some kind of tests/temperature checks randomly onboard during the cruise.

$Free.95 Somebody posted the link on here the other day. All I got to do is get my buddy to print it out on the right type of card.

I'll be more open to getting the vax later down the road. But. I'm not doing it anytime soon. Healthy, young, no vitamin deficiencies, and havent gotten the rona yet

I am not a cruise fan, in fact, I can't really stand the thought of them. My wife, on the other hand, loves them. Her family went on cruises often, and her parents begged us to go. We finally relented and went on a Disney Cruise a few years ago. It wasn't as bad as I had expected, but I would have preferred just going somewhere and not be confined with thousands of people. The kids had a blast, which is what mattered.

They had the auto hand-washers at the kid areas, and they handed out hand sanitizing towels as you entered dining facilities. Seems like you could limit the illness factor now by offering more reasonable options for people that are sick.

Much like work, where people felt compelled to show up even if sick, people don't want to miss a vacation, in part due to the impossibility of rescheduling or difficult refunds. If you say you can't make it because you feel ill... I imagine companies would be more willing to work with you.

How will cruise lines be able to do that when they operate in states that do not allow them to require vaccinations? I recall reading FL was causing some major problems with the cruises & international flights that would require vaccines, but before deporting the cruises/airlines could not request.

I just got a fake vaccination card with fake signatures on it. Don't get the vaccine because someone is making you. If you wanna get it, get it. If not, then don't. I am not getting vaccinated but I'd be damned if they think I'm not allowed somewhere I wanna go because I won't get vaccinated. If that's the case, tell them I forgot it, or bring a fake one. What are they gonna do?
