I'm looking to get a wakeboard mainly for exercise. There's a wakeboard park by my work & I plan on going pretty regularly. If you own your own gear its significantly cheaper in the long run.

I'm kind of old (37) & a beginner so I don't need anything spectacular, but I don't want a piece of shite either.

Any good sites to buy from is appreciated. Hoping to spend around 4-$500 for board and bindings. Is that a good price range for a mid-grade setup? What size do I need? I'm 6'2 220. Any advice is appreciated.

Do you know the basics - can you get up easy and feel comfortable riding?

You can try the-house.com, evo.com, or boardco.com. for your height and weight i would at least get a 144 or bigger. the sites i listed usually have a size chart.

Had a hyperlite Parks Bonifay 138 board and bindings back in the day. Never landed a raley but at least my board looked good on the rack at the launch.

Also, if you are getting a membership there, maybe ask if you can do 1 month with using their gear so you can try a few different boards and figure out a brand or style you like, then buy that and switch your membership to using your own gear.

Just make sure whatever you end up with, you blast by party barges doing 50 MPH with your deck speakers blaring the latest Florida Georgia Line song

Yeah, I can get up and ride switch. That's about it. There's all kinds of ramps, but I haven't landed anything yet. I've only been twice.

What year is this, 2003?

Make sure you get shorts that go down to your knees, dye your hair blonde, and blast Blink 182 and Limp Bizkit from the boat at all times

Wakeboarding is still the most popular water sport I think. Wakesurfing has become pretty popular too.

They make boats that throw a wake that you can actually surf, that's cool as shite and after my time.

When we were young it was all about kneeboarding, wakeboarding was just coming around. I was able to stand up on the knee board for about 10 seconds a couple times. I had an Obrien Airageous and a No Joker (forgot who made it) wakeboard back in the day. Got pulled in Minors canal off a 15' Compagna skiff with a 30 Yammahamme, with 5 or 6 people in it. Good Times.

HO made a Joker kneeboard. Those and the Edge 540/720 were the shite as far as kneeboards went.

I’m 43 years old and still wake surf when I can. It is much easier on the knees and body than wakeboarding.

Can't imagine that'll be good for your knees, but we always stuck with Hyperlite or Liquid Force back in our day. No clue what's popular these days.

I would recommend around a 144 for your size. Make sure the park allows the flat boards or the ones with the ridges in the middle. (Drawing a blank for the technical name). $500 total would be very high end. Also make sure to get a helmet and vest. You’ll most likely have to have both of these when riding and don’t want to rent every time.

This removes half the excitement of dodging oil field drunks, 16 year olds with daddy's boat, gators and water moccasins.
