LOL man this one never gets old........

OP, don't discount the Midcity bar scene -- Finns, Secondline, Pals, MCYC, Bulldog, 12 mile.

With Uber/Lyft/Streetcars its way easier to get around town to the other areas than before.

I just liked the idea of being that close to magazine and the bar scene over there.

It's awesome, I live two blocks off of Magazine and enjoy being that close to the bar/restaurant scene.

Definitely hit the pavement. Think of it this way - if it's easy for you to find online, it's easy for anyone to find it online. So the good ones get snatched up quick. But lots of landlords still don't do a great job of advertising, and it's really worth it to just go to the neighborhoods you think you want to live and drive around.

Bump your rent up about 15% and move to the CBD and thank me later

Definitely this. This is how we found our place.

If I was young and single I'd move into one of the new South Market District apartments. The Beacon or The Paramount.

Section 8. Parking costs. Noise.

There's a reason it's the cheapest place in the CBD by a wide margin.

Just out of curiosity, I looked on Craigslist to see what can be rented in New Orleans at the rate I'm currently paying in Boston...I know New Orleans is expensive to live in by Louisiana standards, but good Lord it's so much cheaper than here.

The Paramount is $1465, but comes with free wifi, parking, gym, and a pool.

If you want to stick to your $1100 budget, then I'd look into my other suggestion of a duplex or 4-plex Uptown.

Thanks for the heads up. I knew about parking and I figured noise was an issue. But the upside is it's within walking distance to work so I wouldn't have to pay to park at work. It's still expensive and it wouldn't be right by the apartment.

Didn't know about the Section 8 part though.

Carondelet is one (1) block off St Charles. It definitely gets scarier the further away from St Charles you get.

Oh but that one block makes all the difference...
