I will have access to laundry, but I figure this is a great excuse to buy some sweet luggage. Is it a terrible idea to buy an awesome duffel instead of hard shell? I'm really liking the Patagonia with the straps. Talk me out of it.

I have one of those black hole duffles. It's a tank.

That said, it depends on how big you're going if you're carrying it on your back.

There literally has not been a large enough container built by man that could hold what my wife would need for a 2 month trip.

She fills up the trunk and the back seat with clothes to go visit her parents for the weekend.

If you have access to laundry, how is packing for 2 months that much different than a week?

I like the idea of a duffel but not crazy about the idea of buying a Patagonia. It's probably a private label duffel bag that they screen print their logo on and sell for 3 times what it's worth.

You need wheels on that thing. No matter what style you buy.

Duffle Bags

This site has several. I prefer the one with the rollers even if it is a duffle.

North Face Base Camp Duffel is better than the Patagonia.

Mission? Let me guess - it involves virtue signalling.

Pack multiple bags and ship them to where you will need them at the appropriate intervals.

it most surely does, but they make pretty strong efforts to control their manufacturing both for quality, as well as to help the local economies they are involved in.

I bought my first Patagonia piece of clothing in 1999 from the Patagonia store in downtown Denver. I don't know the first fricking thing about their "mission", nor do I care. But I still have that jacket and it's still going strong.

It's not what it used to be though. Neither is North Face.
