Looking for Lawyer in Houston area

Can anyone recommend a lawyer in Houston?
I purchased a rebuilt Duramax engine for my 2006 Chevy 3500 from MTZ Engine Rebuilders with a refundable $1000 core deposit.
The first engine they sent had shoddy work. The owner saw the photos of the engine and described it a MF'n BS work. He arranged for the return of the engine and shipped a replacement at his expense.
The second engine arrived with the wrong heads. After some discussion, the owner sent two more heads for the 2006 engine but they sent two passenger side heads. After arguing with my mechanic, the owner conceded there were different heads for each side for that year model and agreed to send the correct heads for the second time.
Several weeks later we got the correct heads. After the install into my truck e shipped the incorrect heads and core back to MTZ.
We have now been waiting over two months for the refund of the core deposit. The owner did communicate twice since the core was returned. First time he said it could take a month for the deposit return to be processed. The second time he apologized for the delay, that he had been busy. Now he does not respond at all.
In addition to the above issues, the cost from my mechanic increased $4500 due to the number of times my truck was up and down on the lift during this debacle.
Any suggestions for a lawyer I can discuss my options with, even if it is a simple letter?

Well definitely the OT is where you should start instead of Google or local message boards for the Houston area.

Call a news station instead of a billboard lawyer. Save some money

Highly unlikely that you get anything from the extra costs from your mechanic.
You might want to start with some poor online reviews and the Better Business Bureau. The BBB may get you your deposit back.

I see two options. 1) have a lawyer write a letter but that’ll be the only scope of the representation. Budget about $1k
2) file in small claims court pro se
No lawyer is going to take this to court. You may have a hook for treble damages though under the DTPA.

Lawyers I know and use in Houston will cost you more per hour than what you have on the line.
You can try Pete Patterson or Steve Kesten but like I said they aren’t cheap.
Steve is at Boyer Miller I don’t recall where Pete is at.

Thank you for the responses. I think I will try the DTPA and BBB. Sounds like great ideas of where to start.

Small claims court. Inexpensive. Make your case to the judge.
Collecting is going to be the issue no matter what. Maybe you can file a lien if some type?

You’re going to spend way more than your core deposit to fight this…
