Remeron has very close chemical properties to Wellbutrin, did that help you much?

I think effexor was discontinued
It still comes as Venlafaxine.
I take that in the morning and Remeron at night before I go to bed because it knocks me the frick out, which is just fine.
I am assuming it helps...I haven't had any issues in almost 4 years. I think the Venlafaxine/Remeron combo are used often as a tandem

Pristiq is basically an improved version of Effexor and now that it’s generic, it’s worth trying if Effexor produces side effects. I hated Effexor, was a lot better on Pristiq, shifted to Luvox as the OCD was getting really bad and want to go back to Pristiq. Effexor was discontinued but Effexor XR is still used.

Why do you refer to a psychiatrist as a " shrink?" Shows some respect for what it took to become a licensed therapist.
She might benefit from seeing a psychologist just as muh as a psychiatrist.
The last thing anyone dealing with emotional issues needs is to place their mental health in the hands of a general practitioner.

How to fix anxiety live lecture.
If it is serious as you say it is, I would go visit this guy before sending her to a psychologist.

Have you ever been on Seroquel?

It actually is a horrible idea to have a general practitioner prescribe psychoactive medications, not sure why you were downvoted to hell

This is a great book. It takes just a few days to read and teaches the emotional skills to handle the typical traumatic knocks of life. Medications are important, but must be combined with education.

Amazing how many people actually do this. Probably down voted for questioning his cavalier use of the term shrink.

We know just talking it out is not a cure but someone who is trained to deal with anxiety may be able to help her work through things and keeps it manageable without meds.
Your logic is sound. I don’t have a recommendation, but a GP is generally not a good resource when dealing with anxiety and mental health in general.
The good news is your wife seems to have limited, but at least some positive results from medication. There are a number of medications of varying dosage amounts. Rarely does the first prescribed treatment work. It often takes a period of trial and error to find the right medication, or combination of meds, and the ideal dosage. Even then, her meds will probably need to be adjusted from time to time.
A good psychiatrist is much more experienced at finding that right balance, and also be able to offer additional approaches to her treatment. Hopefully they can identify certain causes or triggers to her anxiety, and help her in addition to any medication.
A psychiatrist is a MD and can prescribe medication. Some states, including Louisiana, allow psychologists to prescribe medications limited to their field if the meet certain requirements and are licensed by the state. There are really good psychologists and counselors out there that can’t prescribe medication. There are also plenty of quacks, so be careful.
However, there are workarounds if your wife finds a great psychologist, but they aren’t licensed to prescribe medication. She can have her GP prescribe the medications her psychologist recommends if she has a good relationship, and her GP obviously doesn’t have a problem writing scripts up to this point.
Good luck. There are tons of people that have been in a similar situation as your wife, but they are now in a much better place.

I’m going to ask this question and it’s going to sound like I’m trying to be a dick but I’m honestly not. I’m genuinely very curious.
Why do people get so anxious/what gets people so anxious that it requires them to seek professional help and medication?
I’m blessed I don’t have this in my life and I don’t understand how other people get to this point. I want to know how people do
