The mrs has been dealing with some pretty serious anxiety the last few years and the whole situation now has made it even worse. Docs knee-jerk reaction was to put her on meds. We've been through several cycles where it would work at first, then get worse and all the doc would say is to increase the dosage. She's to the point now where she is done with meds and is open to seeing a shrink. So, I'm looking for a recommendation for a psychologist or therapist in the BR area that may specialize in anxiety treatment. She would feel more comfortable with a female as well.

"I DONT WANT MEDS" is what people say when they really really need meds.

I'm not just being insensitive, I have similar situation in my household.

It's a good thing you came to the right place.

Wellbutrin and Klonopin is not a knee-jerk reaction. What does she want instead, some kind of forest root and extra vitamin D?

Andy Yarborough at the Well Clinic in Prairieville and it’s not even close.

A shrink will prescribe meds, I'm not sure what you're asking.

How exactly does a shrink get rid of anxiety, without meds?

Foot massage?

Sounds like she now wants to talk it out. Good luck with that.

The dirty secret no one talks about is that meds don't work for about 20% of patients. My wife has tried literally everything. She's considering ketamine, but she's wary, having been disappointed so many times. She gets by with prayer, meditation, and just toughing it out.

Why are you mentioning Wellbutrin?

Brittany Relle is an excellent therapist/social worker on Picardy. I went through the same exact things as your wife. Brittany helped me a lot. Anxiety is a terrible thing for anyone to deal with.
Best of luck and best wishes to you guys. I hope your wife is able to get her anxiety under control soon!

It's not that she is against meds. She's tried several that helped for only a little while but she hates the side effects. In her mind, she would rather feel anxious and productive than calm and so tired she doesnt want to do anything. She's been dealing with her GP up to this point but if a psych wants to try a different med, I think she would be ok with that at first but would ultimately like to stay off them due to the side effects.

We know just talking it out is not a cure but someone who is trained to deal with anxiety may be able to help her work through things and keeps it manageable without meds.

What makes it more frustrating on my part is that I'm the complete opposite of her and I just cant wrap my head around what she's going through.

I saw Dr. Mark Shoptaugh in Baton Rouge for anxiety issues and he was outstanding. It took some minor tweaking and a little trial and error on figuring out which meds worked for me, but he helped me figure it out. Would highly recommend. He knows his shite when it comes to medicines.

Ended up on a combo of venlafaxine (Effexor) and mirtazipine (Remeron).
