Has anyone in here been made to pay long term spousal support? If so, what was the situation. (In Louisiana)

My coworker cheated after 20 years. One kids in high school and the other in college. Is currently paying child support and temporary spousal. Makes about double what the wife makes. Did he screw himself for life?

very, VERY difficult in LA

the spouse who receives it has to prove he/she was free from fault, which is a REALLY high standard

also, it's not usually "permanent". the recipient-spouse gets it for a few years to get back on his/her feet

I know a guy that is currently paying 15 grand a month for spousal support and is in his 7th year doing so with three years left. He also left the deed to the 700k home.

Because humans can’t live on anything less than 15k a month and live in anything less than a 700k home.

Seriously... WTF has happened to human beings?

He should have thought about his wallet before swimming in his side piece's pool.

He's gonna pay.

It might not be long term spousal support but he just gave away a huge chunk of his assets for cheating.

I agree. If you are that unhappy and are looking to cheat then you should have come to an agreement to divorce well before that time.

Have a buddy that pays 1k a month. On his 7'th year now. No disabled ex just a lazy bitch in a no fault state. I told to take her back to court.

I agreed to 5 years of alimony in addition to child support. Worth every penny to be rid of her.

Nothing. Each state has its own terminology

Depends on the state. Some have a rule of thumb like 1 year of support for every 5 years married. Hire a good lawyer.

Women: We want to be treated equally!!!!

Men: OK. Let's update and reform divorce laws, child custody laws, and female minority business laws.

Women: You chauvinistic pig!!! How dare you suggest we reform the laws which make women defacto unequal!!! We want to be legally entitled to things that make us seem too weak to handle on our own AND we want legal protection from any consequences for our actions!

Men: that's not equality. Why not just let everyone be judged on their own merits?

Women: You cishet shitlord!!! We WANT to be treated equally, but we know men are stronger and smarter and more efficient in pretty much every way, that's how the patriarchy works.
