County is red, but city leans liberal. Past mayor (under Obama) wanted to turn a vacant state juvenile detention center inside city limits into a holding pen for illegals that would be shipped to other parts of the country. The county rose up and said frick no.

What's weird is that city is more Hispanic than black. Only 20% black. So either they took this down because of a minority opinion or some whites think black people would be offended by a gorilla statue so they wanted it removed.

After reading the story I looked up a pic and I don't know if my perception was altered but the poorly constructed and painted gorilla does kinda looked like the black face version of a gorilla and I lol'd
