Weyerhauser is in Holden... but I don't know if they'd even come out for 25 acres.

Contact the Louisiana Forestry Commission and ask them if they have a forester that can come to your property and give you information about the nearby markets that would be interested in what you have to sell.
Buyers are primarily interested in the species (pine or various hardwoods), the size of the trees, the quality, ground conditions, access situation, and how far they have to haul it to a mill.
Someone from the commission should be able to help you understand what it is you have to sale and maybe how valuable it is.

Hire a reputable timber broker to send out bids for you. I just used one and he more than made up for his fees in the improved pricing I got.

The timber broker will handle the contract, make sure the logging company has insurance, will assure logger abides by contract and doesn't trash your land.

ETA: I can't stress how important it is for the logging/trucking guys to properly insured.

Sorry, I just saw your reply. I used Noble THOMPSON of Bayou State Timber in SHREVEPORT, La.

Not sure if he does work in South La. he might have a name for you.

Call these guys . They'll have 3-4 loggers working within 30 minutes of Walker at any time. They have a forester that works around the area, and also sometimes contract out with local foresters every now and again.

25ac isn't a lot, but someone will cut it

Could easily be close to $40k depending on access to the property and if the timber was planted well.

I've cut 2500, so 25 isn't big to me. Some loggers can blow through a 40 of planted pine before you make it home from work

nctiger summed up how it gets priced

Call Malcolm Sibley at KS Timber. 225-686-7935. Great people and company. Do not call a forester/consultant at this point. They are great for managing your timber and will help you get the best long term. but if you deal with a reputable timber company, you will get paid for what is there. We pay the same for timber regardless of the landowner/consultant and work with some great consultants. The consultant just gets a piece o that pie. So, they are great if you use them to plan for the future, but to just pick up when ready to harvest is losing you money. No we don't cut anywhere close, over 4 hours away.
