Actually I meant squash...as in use it as an excuse to further mistreat the student for their perceived impertinence. Not simply cutoff their ability to counter argue.

Just so we are both on the same page of my word choices, the definition of impertinence I am using for this context is, "a presumptuous rudeness toward one entitled to deference."

And frick you btw

Uses the "synonyms" function in Word to sound smart.

No, you didn't.

But keep digging for the least used obscure definition to save face...

Learned folks would use 'quash'...

Some of us possess a larger vocabulary than libtard, fricktard, and baw

If you read carefully, the original jab was at your teacher not you. Then you got defensive and tried to embarrass me. I can accomplish that on my own.

Quash v squash is one I see on the regs...no biggie.

You fricktard ol' baw.

Fresh to the thread and saw this so allow me to referee.

You meant QUASH. Sorry. Unless you wanted to discuss her choice of veggies. This is one that should have been in that "terms you see commonly misused" thread.

Well, we would use the verb “quash” for the crushing of something in a nonphysical sense (say, a rebellion or a rumor) and “squash” for when the object is physically crushed (like a beer can or a bug).

However, both of these verbs were used for hundreds of years to refer to physical and nonphysical crushing, though “quash” seems to have lost its physical sense in contemporary usage.

We’ve checked a half-dozen standard dictionaries and most of them say “squash” can be used for crushing a box, a rebellion, a rumor, or a heckler.

But most of them say “quash” can be used in only two senses: (1) to set aside a legal ruling, and (2) to suppress or silence something, like an uprising or a rumor.

As we’ve said, we prefer to use “squash” for crushing boxes, not rebellions, but we could find only one usage guide that backs us.

Garner’s Modern American Usage (3rd ed.) says “squash” means just one thing: to flatten something by crushing or squeezing.

We had a brief posting a few years ago on “quash” and “squash,” but your question gives us a chance to update and expand on what we said then about these squishy words.

Both “quash” and “squash” are quite old and share the same Latin ancestor, though “quash” is far the older, according to published references in the Oxford English Dictionary.

Teachers in MS have to sign a code of ethics. This would in fact break that code and the entire liscense could get pulled.

Violating the school board's code of conduct and being a shitty role model for the kids you teach would be my guess.

Posting a pic of you flipping off a building while simultaneously using the hashtag lovetrumpshate is at the very least ironic. But I'd say it's being a shitty role model as well.

MS schools > LA schools

Sad that it's come to the point where LA is ranked 51st in education, while states like MS are slowly climbing. Heck the gumps are up to 42nd.

She's actively breaking the rules that she knowingly agreed to to work where she does. That's her problem.
