The only problem I see in teachers expressing themselves would be when a teacher seeks to squash students who do not align with their beliefs.
in todays world thats exactly whats going on and I cant be in the classroom to monitor what they are teaching/preaching

Just thought of something.
How Ironic is it that we forbid teachers from talking politics but schools are named after former Presidents/Founding Fathers?
I agree that teachers shouldn't press beliefs on their students.
But it's a gray area if English teachers/students can debate and share their own interpretations of a book.
Then, Why can't a Civics/History/Sociology teacher engage with and debate their students on foreign policy?

It breaks the rules of her employment.
Furthermore, I'm of the opinion that her personal beliefs have no business being discussed in the classroom, especially a theater teacher.
I agree that if it breaks the rules of her employment she should be reprimanded.
I also agree elementary teachers should shy away from direct expression of political slant as their student's are not old enough to reflect and disagree.
But teachers are trained that they are "educators first" and stakekholders in a student's overall success. Regardless of the subject they actually teach.
It is a good thing to expose young minds to wide ranging beliefs and perspectives.

Her opinion doesn't matter because she blindly protests the president because he isn't a Democrat.

The man said that his kids came home relaying the message that their teachers have said that America is in "big trouble" if Trump gets elected. So...

True, and those opinions that blindly follow the Republican party shouldn't count either.

Why would you fire someone for that?

I don't find that to be ironic at all.

That's not what's happening here.

So if a teacher did the same thing to something with Obama on it and posted it on social media there should be no repercussions? It's a two way street, a person with authority and influence openly disrespecting the office of the president and posting it on social media present a litany of problems for her/himself. On top of that, last time I checked St Amant is a public school, meaning that the teacher is a government employee. Government employees generally have stipulations in their code of ethics strictly prohibiting derogatory, political, lewd, or illegal activity on their social media accounts.
It's not a red state blue state thing. It's a complete disregard for your position and the code of ethics you take on in that position. She is within her rights to participate in the march, and even post about it. She can flip off Trump all day, just don't be an idiot and post it on social media. IMO, she should be gone.

Expressing her political opinion is one thing
Flipping off a building with our new POTUS name on it is just stupid and she should, at minimum, issue a public apology for being so inconsiderate of the young people that see her rant.
She shouldn't be fired unless she's had other incidents that we may not know of.

Republicans don't really protest very much. Democrats use any excuse to protest. It's almost like their hobby.

This is clearly a case of "Actions have consequences."

In some cases.
I will also tell you that my kids coming home decrying "Common Core" because their teachers openly complain about it would also violate the "no political expressions" stance.
My kids have come home telling me a teacher said the same thing about Obama being reelected. "The country is in big trouble"
Lunchbox had already said yes but would the rest of you be as offended?
Not all teachers are liberal snowflakes. Hell I have a few teachers blowing my FB feed up with pro-trump/anti-hillary items all the time.
Diversity in thought is a good thing for the education of our youth.
Just so you know, I voted for Trump and consider myself to be a moderate republican.

There were 2.9 Million protestors many were university faculty, teachers, etc..from all disciplines and walks of life.
I know at least 16 professors on my facebook feed alone who were at the marches, however I doubt any of them would be sticking out their middle finge

My subsequent question was just about the philosophy behind the decision to keep politics out of classrooms.
But do you... argue frickING EVERYTHING.

Violating the school board's code of conduct and being a shitty role model for the kids you teach would be my guess.
