Precisely why it's a gaping sore. I've been voting for years what is this the comedy hour? I've also been going to New Orleans for nearly 20 years and I live there now (although I leave as much as possible), its nothing special and I stand by what I said in that pretty much everywhere outside of New Orleans wishes that it didn't have to be associated with it. I mean look at the crime rates in all surrounding cities after Katrina.

Can we all stop with how EBR is so heavily African American?

It’s about fiddy-fiddy.

You are correct, that is because BR is the pillar of cultural diversity, in La at least.

Without LSU would all these white people be living here? No.

And that's within the city limits. I've lived here for 41 of 43 years and I couldn't tell you if I'm driving in St George or not most of the time. That area is 80/20 white/black.

Dammit, these frickers are making me defend BR

Jackson is about 7-8 years past where BR is in white flight and suburb expansion. Look at the malls for how the areas are trending. BR is grasping to survive, but no one in their right mind would plant roots in EBR as long as it is tied to that system of government. Central and Zachary are just holding off the inevitable unless they change the rules of governance.

Yeh BR def has a crime problem but people act like its some third world country where white people are afraid to go. In my experience I've always been treated well by the urban community in BR. If you don't go looking for trouble it typically won't find you. You got just as many trailer trash whites in BR (or anywhere in the State) in La that would try to rob or hurt you.

Yeh but they told us that the Gulf Coast would be at I-10 soon so what's the point, maybe BR should just tear down the old Bridge and move North and lay claim to Natchez and start over.

You might be correct, and I don't necessarily disagree, but I'd say 20-30 years. Real estate prices in desirable parts of town are increasing right now in 2020.

Either way, you aren't displacing 45% of the urban population in 7 years. I do think that the flight to the suburbs or out of the state will continue though.

Then start a thread about it

This thread has nothing to do with New Orleans

Like New Orleans would be without the French Quarter.

Not sure - look what’s happened to the Sherwood area (from Florida to Airline) just in maybe 10 years

Tons of questionable businesses just in the last 3

Shopping areas...

Downtown Jxn--> Downtown BR
Jackson Mall --> Bon Marche
Metrocenter--> Cortana
Northpark--> Mall of Louisiana

EBR had more of a cohesive thought for longer, but the trend is the same. Only difference is that Jackson actually has planned suburbs. The city of Jackson now sucks, but BR is definitely heading that way.

Good answer.

So you’re saying the only reason people visit New Orleans is because of the French Quarter?

Has nothing else to do with the other aspects and draws that the city offers?

Being a major shipping port at the mouth of the Mississippi River doesn’t have anything to do with it?

Nobody visits Nola for the Port of South Louisiana. They just use it.

This one would be closer. I imagine NP is nicer now -- haven't been to either in ages
