Hate to say it but its true. Especially recently, you can at least go outside in BR right now. And with "Stroya murking what's left of the economy who knows. (and this is coming from a guy who is praying that doesn't happen).

AHh yeh you're right I think it was just the "proper city limits" but that is still mind boggling to me, maybe Atlanta has always been super suburb heavy.

Thanks Fin, that’s what I thought. Probably worse

But I try to not deal too much in hypotheticals and "what-if's" because the fact of the matter is the Flagship University of Louisiana, known in most circles as "the Harvard of the South," is in fact in BR and not New Orleans. For better or worse.

The question is what would LSU be like without Baton Rouge. Answer: better

A more depressing city than it already is. Imagine BR without the LSU economic impact and tax dollars

I'm no tech fan but its not a bad school. A few older people and kids I went to highschool with went there and make pretty impressive salaries.

Dammit I knew I should have proof read that because I knew that was coming. good one, but Southern isn't even Grambling on a bad day.

So you’re honestly saying Baton Rouge without LSU would be like New Orleans?
A city with a brand new major international airport, a major international shipping port, major worldwide tourist destination, some of the best restaurants in the world, some of the best festivals and Mardi Gras....a huge convention destination,
That compares to Baton Rouge without LSU?
Am I missing something?
Eta: are you also forgetting about Tulane, UNO, Loyola, LSUMC, Ochner, LMC, etc

Yes we all know that we are just trying to have some fun.

Nah. The BR urban area sans official suburbs is about 45-50% white/black in either direction. It's not even close to Jackson's demographics. Hell, not even close to Nola's.
What other similarities are we looking for other than they are both Southern state capitals with high crime rates?

The problem was in keeping too many of those other colleges around as just sort of regional pork and nothing else, not in creating a main focused “flagship.”
The best option then would have been to cut the number of 4 year schools in half, and make the rest Junior/Community colleges or just shut a bunch down all together.

Well it may not be those things for long if y'all don't start voting better. Obviously New Orleans is New Orleans but as I said, I have lived in both and personally New Orleans, in many ways, feels like I just got off a ship in New Jersey. I also know that many people outside of New Orleans, particularly NorthLa, would much prefer New Orleans to be its own state.

Yeh this is why I love these threads, because Louisiana is all in the same boat. If you prefer the city move to Nola, if you prefer the country there is plenty of that and if you prefer an in between pick any of the top 5 largest cities not named Nola. But as I mentioned earlier they are all so close you can literally go from place to place with (relative) ease.

New Orleans has been voting this way for 5 decades
How old are you?

go to bed kid
I just realized you aren’t even old enough to vote

Is there anything more obvious in Louisiana? Everyone I talk to agrees we have too many colleges and universities. No one wants to cut theirs though.
